Need temperature/climate control and humidity controled room with filtered air, Make sure to use distilled water only for humidifier, Place room out of sunlight, put your board in black bag into a custom design box to reduce stress and distribute weight evenly. The best way to store board. Hire a full time person to gaurd board and monitor room.

Wheels down on the ground is probably the best for short term storage. But if its winter and you're not gonna be ridding at all for a few months you should take it apart and store it flat wrapped in a box

To fix a door, don't grind the edge down, tighten up the top hinge, make sure there is one long screw, about 3-3.5 inch and pull the hinge tight. All doors, gates sag after a while and the top hinge is usually the problem. If you have to lift up to latch it or the gap on the top is tight, it's the screws in the top hinge. Or sagging post gate is attached to, when you set a gate post, pitch it over the direction that will counter gravity and the weight of the gate, if the gate is on the right, pitch the post a quarter inch or so left. It will settle.. Never sand or cut. Use a couple long screws if you have to. Next if that doesn't work, take a block of wood to the door frame and hit it with a hammer and knock it over a little. You may break free paint and caulk that needs to be doctored up. Anyways, I felt like I should put that out there for anyone who was considering a repair. If it's only the coldest days I might not mess with it. The Professor is more making an analogy to understand. Love the show guys and it's interesting to hear the Professor break down the science from an engineering and scientific mind. I wrote this for the D.I.Y.ers .. Much love guys!

If you have 5 or so decks with different concave, do not stack them flat like he suggests. The weight of the top boards will warp the bottom one or ones. Scientific facts he wants? Okay, as any carpenter knows, when your staining kiln dried lumber and stacking them on top of each other, if you don't put the spacer cleats exactly on top of each other, those bottom boards will be fucked up. Now, if it's all the same shape board, then I agree, let those kittens cuddle.

I don't buy it. If your muscle memory for tricks is set up for a complete shitty board when you first step on a brand new board all your shit will be off for a while until you adjust everything. As an experienced traditional woodworker who's studied laminate bending and steam bending and someone who skates and manufactures skateboard racks and hangers for a living I can say with great confidence there is a hell of a lot of seudo science bullshit coming from Schmitt here. I like the guy but he doesn't even know some basic terminology and he doesn't even seem to think wall Hanging devices exist. That whole stack em flat thing is utter nonsense and would only work if you had all the same boards out of the same mold in the same order. Think about it. Imagine the weight on the bottom board with another 40 boards that don't tessellate (cuddle???, wtf? ) over a long period add some humidity and your boards will warp. There's also much Higher risk of scratching the graphic so Please just don't do it. On a rack is best and on a proper hanger on a wall is fine. If a board can't keep It's form by being hung on a wall or only needing to support its own weight what chance would it have with your fat ass doing a 5 set or being stacked under another 40 decks. It's totally illogical. Climate matters but Schmitt has to wear a white coat to give an illusion of scientific credibility because in reality he makes shit up as he goes along. This isn't the first time he's been criticized for giving totally the opposite advice either.
@qLoxZy

@@mutantlego tbh i think youre making an overstatement. no comment on the stack em flat thing.. i think Schmitt was making a generalization (its generally the best way to stack boards; for the general consumer) Also the word choice (cuddle vs tessellate); probably has to do with the audience.. not everyone is an expert on this topic 'If a board can't keep It's form by being hung on a wall or only needing to support its own weight what chance would it have...... The properties of wood change overtime; meaning days, weeks, months,... So a piece of wood can for example be resilient against a 5 stair ollie (force in the moment) but not be strong enough to carry X amount of weight over Y period of time (force over time) I dont think Schmitt is a skate-physics genius; but i know hes right in some ways Dont take lab coats so serious; everyone can go out and buy one lol

Thats also a great way to trap humidity if you live somewhere with rapid weather changes (like a large part of the continental US). I've actually seen boards "sweating" their stain out after being stored in plastic during a hot and humid part of summer. In my collecting days I'd say I lost more boards to warp from bad bags than anything else. I've slowly wittled down my stack but what I do still have I keep out of plastic, in breathable bags with lots of ventilation, in the corner of the basement and I havent had a board warp in years. I'm not sure why people take everything this guy says as gospel, as far as I'm aware his only real qualification is being one of the first guys making custom shapes in the 80s and a lot of what he says seems to be laymans interpretations of scientific concepts rather than the real thing.

@@mguay001 Primo makes more sense to me, like Roger said. I've been keeping mine in the garage. It's built into the house. So, it doesn't get too hot, but, it's more humid in there. I should be storing them in the house where it is more climate controlled and less humidity.

Because he's right. It's better to store the boards vertically on their side. The professor doesn't know everything. Only Roger does.
