I was told by my hair dresser that not every type of hair needs the use of a conditioner on the top of shampoo, and that mine in fact didn't as it only makes the hair heavier and greasier, takes off volume and structure and puts us into necessity to wash our hair more often - and you have the same type of hair ! Don't be afraid to try out as indeed many products we now think we can't live without have became such as a consequence of marketing !!! Shout out to all fellow girls over there with flat, (fine) or just naturally quite glossy hair !

Love this! I have thin, wavy, waist length long hair and I always wondered how do people brush with a boar brush and be able to flip it upside down without tangling their hair like mine. I tried it for the last few days with my Mason Pearson Popular brush and what a different it made in my hair health. When I just want to wash my hair but showered already, I would do the bend over method. The only complaint is that since my hair is thinner, when I wrap it up, it dry with my scalp expose at the back of my head.

Yeah, same. You either have to kinda push the brush in or buy one that has boar+ flexible nylon bristles (the nylon will help the brush into the hair). I don't have the hang of it yet either tho... It kinda groups the oily hair together making it look grossly slick ahah. That whole spreading of the oils through the strands is not yet what I see.

I have very thick hair, does the bristles have to touch the scalp the whole time while brushing or do they only go over the superficial part of the hair? When I tried mine (short hair cut), I could not feel my scalp (the bristle did not seem to have touched my scalp unless I tried to press the brush down very hard). Is that normal? Or should I get a longer bristle brush so that the bristles get through my hair to touch the scalp? Thank you for your input!

I have the exact same problem! did you find an answer?
@BestBirth4 жыл бұрын
As was mentioned, a boar bristle brush with stiffer bristles may help, and also you can try sectioning off parts of your hair. If you section the hair, you'll want to start by pulling the back part away while you brush through the front part of your hair, then let out more hair from the back and repeat brushing. You'll do this until you get through all the hair and your whole scalp has the brush run through it. This way your brush is pulling the oils from your scalp through your hair to the ends.

I have a very similar hair type to yours. Maybe strands that are slightly thicker, but just as long. I'm about five weeks into a no poo routine and found your video through your Amazon review of the BBB. I just tried your showering method bent at the waist, and it was a disaster! Everything went well until I got out of the shower... I couldn't run my fingers through my wet hair to get it to lay back down the correct way. Too wet, too clumpy, too tuggy, too heavy. I got a GIANT tangle, on the back and on both sides of my head right behind my ears. I spent over 30 minutes trying to go at it carefully with a wide tooth comb, and I ended up tearing out huge nasty tangles of hair just trying to get it to lay back down in the way you were able to with just your fingers. I don't think I've ever lost so much hair after a shower. Would LOVE to see you do this with wet hair. As of now, at least for me, your "method" of flipping wet hair from the front to the back seems completely impossible.
@BestBirth9 жыл бұрын
I use leave-in conditioner and either jojoba oil (winter) or argan oil (summer) on my length before I try to return to the upright position. If I get any tangles at all, they aren't too terrible. I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience with it. In the shower, be sure not to make any circular motions at your scalp. This will cause tangles. I will probably be making another video on this in the future, with wet hair.

cassy_1: I'm not seeing a reply button so I can't reply directly to you. I hope you'll see this answer to your question. I style my hair any way I like after brushing. Sometimes I braid it while still in the bent-at-waist position. I watched a tutorial put out by the Moroccan Method on BBBing African hair. Basically, she sectioned the hair and did a small bit at a time. I usually put a 50/50 mix of shea butter and coconut oil on my ends at night, though I'm finding this is less and less necessary since I started using the BBB twice daily.

how do you wash your boar bristle brush?
@tracytran25605 жыл бұрын
sorry this is super late but all you do is run it under a running faucet, but dont soak it in a tub because that will cause the water to get trapped in the spongey area. take the hairs out actually before you wash it and just move the brush around and rub your hands through them.
@BestBirth4 жыл бұрын
I use a comb to remove the hairs and lint from the brush first. I just comb through my brush, if that makes any sense. Then I use a mild shampoo and running water and scrub the boar bristle brush using a dishwashing type brush since the bristles on dishwashing brushes are generally long enough to reach down through the bristles of my boar bristle brush.

Jenny Derksen the human scalp has natural oil producing glands called the sebaceous glands. a higher amount of sebaceous glands are always found at the nape of the neck. flipping your hair forward and brushing from the nape to the ends of your hair helps to collect this natural oil and distribute it well throughout your hair. @valeriea37598 жыл бұрын
Because your scalp produces oils, and putting more oil (conditioner essentially) isn't necessary. It will make your scalp greasy.

My fine mostly straight hair becomes quite greasy after just half a day if I use conditioner at my roots. Applying it to the length keeps it soft and protects my ends without adding more oil to the scalp.

Just a suggestion... If you cut your hair shorter and in layers, your hair will automatically look thicker. Because your hair is so long, the weight of it is pulling your hair down, and making your hair flat and thin. Longer doesn't mean thicker. Once you get a stylish and updated haircut, it will give your hair more volume, your hair will feel and looking thicker.
@BestBirth4 жыл бұрын
I've had layers and shorter hair before, and it made my hair look thinner and scraggly at the ends. It also did nothing to improve the appearance of volume. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. My hair is so fine and lightweight, there is little, if any, pull from its length. When I wear it down on wash days, it is quite fluffy and light at the scalp. Only when oils build up does it look like seaweed stuck to a rock. My hair is best all one length. Thanks for the suggestions though. I'll probably never be "updated" in fashion, makeup, or hair. I just do what I like.
