How to properly use a Bushnell Range Finder 👀

❌PROBLEM with lasers is we zone in to much on the flag and then we fire straight at the flag. We’ve looked through a binocular and planted that image in the head and that’s where we go.
Zap the flag with the laser then weight up the options and remove the image of the flag from your head and play the sensible shot.

What I’m saying here is they encourage you to chase pins and end up short sided. I hit wedge 140 but was influenced by the zoomed in view of the pin on the front edge of the green….I fell for it🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Front pins do require a different approach, but you are putting a subjective slant on an objective problem. There is no "They", no one is encouraging you to do anything, and all the zoomed in view is helping you do is target the pin with the rangefinder. There are really 4 ways to deal with a front pin: 1. Run the ball up by pitching it short. 2. Spin the ball stopping it or spinning it back. 3. Hit a draw or fade so that the ball ends up coming in more from the side. 4. Be conservative and hit it to the middle. Obviously the design of the green and the hole, and your ability, will decide what is best for you. But I think your paranoia that tool manufacturers and course designers are in cahoots to stop you scoring well, is a bigger problem for you to deal with, than front pins which are difficult and usually underrated by amateur golfers.

If you hit a wedge 131 and the distance to the pin was 131, then you didn’t hit a good shot did you, that’s not the lasers fault, it’s yours🤷‍♂️

Laser is a starting number, then you factor the lie, wind, temp and proper miss area and where you want the ball to pitch or land, that comes down to a totally different number, that’s the number you play. Laser doesn’t calculate, the player does. Laser starts you off on the right foot.

Know your carry distance with your clubs. Not your total distance. Then take into consideration the elevation change, wind speed. Even the altitudes playing abroad where the air can be thin mountain golf (ball goes further with less resistance) or thick/ humid in scottish links (ball carries oess with more air resistance. Lastly the temperature really affects the carry too, the hotter it is, the further the ball goes. Thats why in winter you can be 30 yard shorter and not just because of soggy ground.

I guess if you paced off that distance to the stick, we could better define the problem. You should not have a problem if you double check a blind pin where the entire flagstix is not visible.

I THINK... he means that your wedge distance is your average wedge distance ... so 131 with your PW being the average means you COULD hit it anywhere from 125 slightly fat, to 136 clean. SO don't chose the pin's yardage if it's on the front edge, allow for your average fat shot. if you laser 5 yards behind the front edge pin instead, your fat will be bang on, your perfect will be 5 yards long and your thin will be 10 yards long BUT it will be on the green. SO don't get 'sucked in' by simply playing your average PW length IF the 'pin' is front edge. Allow for your miss. (dont get sucked in by the flag). Similarly, if the pin was on the back edge, allow for your long thin shots and laser a few yards closer to the centre of the green. Golf is all about your best misses.

If you were using a watch or phone GPS app and that was telling you, that it was 131 yards to the middle and 120 to the front of the green, i can understand the advice. As most of the time you have to consider other aspects. But if you shoot the flag and its 131 with no difference for slope etc, then the only real consideration is that you need to dicide if you are stopping the ball dead and slam dunking it, pitching it before the hole, or going long screwing it back to the hole.

RF's are more accurate than your distance control. They calculate distance to an object, they do not help a golfer with objectivity. Most golfers need help with that.

I don't think you understand the yardage your clubs go. 131 yards would be total carry. You need to learn your Carry yardage for your clubs. It is not Bushnell's fault that you don't understand the distance. A lot of factors go into club selection besides distance. Wind, temperature, condition of the lay. Stop playing for the laser and let the laser help you play better

I hit wedge 140, I knew it was a 131 yard shot but looking through the laser I could see the pin was in the front edge so that influences me to take too much off the wedge. Was taking some off for the 140 down to 131 then I foolishly took more off as it looked less due to me having zoomed in on a pin that hanging off the front edge. Sorry you didn’t like the video🤷‍♂️

@@stevejohnstongolf so it being short wasnt a range finder issue, it was a "you taking the wrong amount off" problem. depending on your spin rate and ball flight you can make a 131 yard shot stop at 131 yards.
