what is Varistor and how to connect VDR / MOV in electrical Circuit.
Today, we're diving into a topic that's crucial for every homeowner: Overvoltage protection using Varistors, Which is also known as VDRs or MOV.
A varistor that is made with a combination of zinc oxide or other kinds of metal oxides such as manganese cobalt etc is called metal oxide varistor.
MOVs are same as resistors because it consists of two leads where they don’t have polarity.The Name Metal Oxide Varistor is a variable resistor. But not like a Variable resistor its resistance will change automatically depending on its voltage. Once the voltage across the varistor increases, the resistance will be decreased. This property is very important for the circuits to protect from high voltage spikes.
It is also called VDR " voltage dependent resistor.

Thanks for nice explanation. Meri experience me varister ke two cases huway hain. 1. Over voltage hone par mera imported TV save ho gaya, mov ki wajah se. 2. Gulf me ek machine par kam kate waqt, over voltage se machine ka Japanese PLC unit defective ho gaya jo expensive tha, Rs 50k se ziyada. Usko my ne open kiya to dekha ki PCboard me ek mov jala hua hai, jisko change karne par PLC sahih kam karne laga. MOV na hota to PLC ka pcboard damage hojata.
