Thanks a lot sir, I was attempting to repair an Anchor extension board with a spike protector where the varistor was blown off. Couldn't find the name of this component and specifications as it totally burned off. I thought it was the old ceramic capacitors I used in hobby circuits in school. You explained this new thing so well. Will hunt for a 275/20 varister to replace. then. Beautiful informative video.

For normal spikes of voltage as explained in video, it will not blow. I have also said in the video that it is not for continuous over voltage, it is for a short time spike of voltage only.

Kuch 10 sal pehle main Saudi me ek machine ke PLC me short circuit note kiya, jisko badalna zaroori tha aur woh expensive tha. Jaise hi machine ka power ON karte, to main fuse blow ho jate they. PLC badalne ke pehle, main ne usko khola takay dekhey ke PLC poora to nahin jal gaya. Main dekha ki PLC ke Line aur Neutral ke across ek MOV tha jo jal kar short circuit kar raha tha (perhaps over voltage ya surge ki wajah se). Maine us defective MOV ko cut kar ke nikal diya aur woh PLC sahih kaam kar raha tha. Spare MOV wahan par na milne ke karan badal nahin saka, lekin kam theek se chal raha tha.
