EFFECT OF TREE ROOTS ON BUILDING
• Trees Are Valued in The Environment For Their Ability To Provide Shade, Wind Protection, Water Filtration And Beauty To The Landscape.
• It Can Also Cost Thousands of Rs In Repair Costs to Buildings, Foundations, Backyards, Pavement and Plumbing Systems.
• Poor Planning Is Often the Culprit, As Is Choosing the Wrong Type of Tree To Plant In A Particular Spot.
How it Damages the Structure
1. Structural Damage
The Three Primary Forces That Trees Have On Building Foundations Are:
I. Direct Root Contact With The Foundation :- Depend On Size, Type, And Location Of The Tree, As Well As The Type Of Soil And Type Of Foundation That You Have.
II. Changing The Amount Of Moisture :- If The Tree Does Not Get The Required Amount Of Water Needed, It Will End Up Burrowing Down Under Your Dwellings Foundation To Reach The Moisture It Needs. The Change In Precipitation Under Or Around The Foundation Can Make It Settle Unevenly, And Create Damage.
III. Pockets Of Space Plus Unstable Earth Near Or Beneath A Foundation :- When Parts Of A Tree Start To Shrink, This Can Cause Space Where It Once Was, Making That Area Unstable And Produce Damage To Your Foundation When Settling
2. Drain damage
Roots may enter and block drains. If the drain leaks, it can lead to the formation of cavities where water flows into the soil. Older drains with poor seals and rigid joints are most susceptible.
3. Physical Damage
Branches can cause damage to roofs and guttering. Suckers and expanding roots can lift paving and lightweight structures, such as garages and sheds, but are incapable of lifting heavier structures

PREVENTATIVE MEASURES
1. The Distance Between Trees And Your Foundation Is Something To Be Careful Of.
2. Construct A Root Barrier :- Ditch For The Barrier Is Dug, You Can Then Place A Specially Formed Material That Helps To Control The Trees Root System Wherever It Is Set.
3. Make Sure Trees Get Adequate Water :- If They Are Not Getting The Water Needed, They Will Encroach In Places You Don’t Want.
4. Be Selective About The Types Of Trees :- Choose A Variety That Takes Some Time To Grow, Is Shorter Or An Ornamental Type, Some Of These Are: Guava, Banana, barriers, Ashok, Gulmohar. etc.
