Naphtalin balls can be hung in plastic nets at 3 to 4 places in the engine room. Remove that when you use the car. This is to be replaced with new naphtalin balls when the first one loose the smell. Naphtalin balls= paatta gulika.

Tobacco (pukayila) is the cheap & best solution. Rats cut my car cables twice and I had to spend lots of money to rectify it. My mechanic suggested this idea. Phenyl is not that much effective. New generation cars are having the advantage of showing a glowing symbol if there is a damage in the wiring due to rat bite.

The simplest solution is to keep the hood open during night time. An open bonnet makes the rats insecure as there is nothing to protect them from predators. I have successfully used this method for years to save my engine bay. However rats are ingenious animals. They invent many ways for their survival. When i protected my engine bay, they started sneaking into the car cabin!! Humans perhaps can never win a rat war😭
