Welcome to another video!
This one's always a big one for me, as my apple trees are one of my favorite trees I'm growing. So I took a lot of care in conveying my thought process, what I'm wanting to do, what I'm trying to achieve and how I'm going to do it.
I hope you all learned something from it, and if there's questions feel free to leave them in the comment section!

Very interesting video. From this one and a previous years edition I learned a lot about pruning apple trees. Nice that you have three different ones to show as they grow a bit differently and need different treatment. Thanks and I'm waiting for 2023 edition!

Very nice demonstration. I am a newbie and I'm growing my apple trees ( dwarf bare roots) in 20 gallon pots. I have a question about fruit buds. How do you induce fruit buds? Do they appear on more horizontal types of branches? Also, what do you recommend for compost , and fertilizer for apple trees in pots ( don't plan on putting in the ground). Thanks

My apple trees started producing in year 2, so haven't needed to induce them, and probably wouldn't. They generally start producing year 2 or 3. The fruit buds do grow on horizontal branches, you'll recognize them in late winter/early spring by being short, and plump (vegetative buds will be much skinnier). First I mix Iron Tone with some blood meal which'll make it a balanced fertilizer, then I top the soil back up with worm castings, and shredded bark, which'll also be mulch. I hope it helps!

Very informative video! I have been watching some of your Nursery videos (along with your rock hounding videos) and find them very well made and educational. Is Nursery/gardening work your vocation? Oregon or Washington? Just curious. I look forward to viewing the rest of your past videos, along with your future ones. Subscribed!

That's the best compliment I could ask for, and truly appreciate it! I'm in WA state, and am hoping to make nursery work (probably along with YT) my full time job at some point. If the housing market wasn't as crazy as it is I would've upscaled already, lol. Thank you for the comment, and your viewership! :)

They are roughly +/- 66 cm or 26 inches around (measurements taken from a regular wooden whiskey barrel, which are a similar size). Dankjewel voor het bekijken! 😄

why didn't you just pinch off young unwanted laterals when they first started in summer? would have healed fast & energy would have gone into desired branch.

I don't feel the need, I prefer to let it all grow in summer and prune it in winter.

@@DutchmansNursery Maybe you "feel" that way, but this was supposed to be an educational mentoring video on the presumably best way to do something.
