I’ve seen many pruning videos of so many presenters. Yet, this video is the first one that instead of going crazy with a knife and keep cutting the entire tree into a single stick nude standing on the ground; this lady with cute EU accent first talks about why branches needs to be cut! And she does it with a low ink red pen. She says why that cut needs to take place. 🤙🤙👌👌👌

I love it when people break down the why(s) to something like this. I'm so glad I found this. I had a pretty good idea of how to prune my ridiculously overproductive young apple tree (I swear it's importing plant steroids in the middle of the night).. But this just made me understand it full circle. Thank You! Danke! (Hope I guessed that correctly lol)

Great video. Probably the best explanation one I've seen. One more tip I would add is to rinse your pruners in a diluted bleach solution between trees to avoid spreading any disease from one to the other. 🌳

It's much easyer to understand what's the goal explained on 2D, on 3D... it's very hard to me to see it for myself; but now that i've seen the theory in 2D... i think that i'd get the theory, and in case of doubt... i always can comeback to your video to refresh the lesson. Very clear explanation, many thanks. Also, i like your meows; even when you seem to have the same "success" than me with my own cats, that look at me like.. "what are you doing!? don't you see that we're trying to sleep, punk??", that was great heh. >>;-)

Good explanation. Can you show this again next year, when the branches grown again? So we can see how the branches worked out. I recently made a video about cutting wine vines, but I never tried fruit trees cause they are much more complicated. Maybe I will try it this year after watching your video.

I forgot to mention I’m very new to gardening, while knowing very dangerously low understanding of bonsai “training” concept! So instead of cutting my apple tree branches as an option, I do my best in changing/training branches to change their growth direction orientation. I mainly use small amount of weight like christmas tree ornaments hangings from different branches. I also use copper wiring if needed more force lasting 1-2 weeks.

Thanks for the cutting tips, i have only my balcony. But for some reason those 'sticks' i have take for support to my sunflowers last summer and before that, have start to grow on their own. So i have now 2 little trees growing in balconyboxes, dont know what type are before starting to bloom some summer i hope. Waiting for the springtime, its here sooner than we know =)

Thanks Lilly. I am very interested in espalier. With a small backyard this might be of interest to you too. My mom was a passionate gardener. She would clean her secateurs between plants to minimise spreading issues from plant to plant. My mum would also make me clean up the cut-offs so that they were not places were disease could find a purchase in the garden. These twigs became kindling for the regular BBQ. Great to see the tags on the plants. Very smart. Would be really interested in a follow-up video when the trees fruit. From Brisbane, Qld - Australia.
