I would also keep some of those off Cuts and add them to a Bucket of Water. And then plant them up as 'New Trees'. OK, they will not be on eg a Semi Dwarf Root Stock (these keep Trees from growing to big, eg in Small Town Gardens etc.) But hey those 'Stem Cuttings' can be Trained and Trimmed Annual : and grown as Espalier Trees. Ones where the Tree has Side Branches parallel to the Ground ! And the Top is kept say at Head Height. In France : they even grow one's at Knee Height, bend the leader Stem over (gently) at almost 90 Degrees, and then Grow these Trees almost like step over Hedging. Eg around Vegetable Garden Beds, to also edge Fruit Bushes. The options are endless ! 👍 Of course : the Head Gardener will have to remember to Prune them regularly (to keep their shape) and to stop them growing into 'huge Trees' due to them being on their 'own' fast growing roots. I've done this with my Eating and Cooking Apples. Including : Discovery, Gala, Red Heart and Bramley (Cooker.) If Beeks can make 'Splits' then why not increase your Fruit Trees too. Apples and Pears : do Prune while the trees are dormant. Still OK to do while their 'buds' haven't opened yet. So you can still do this up until late Feb, or early March*. With Cherry's and Plums, or other Fruit Trees that have 'Stones' like Nectarines and Peaches : don't Prune until the tree is in Full Leaf ! Do these in June to September. June to tidy up the Tree. And Sept* for big major Cuts etc. After the Fruit has been harvested. Hope this helps. 😎 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2024 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Have used the Dates re Months for here in Scotland 🏴 You might be earlier and later down South as Frosts are normally over sooner, and your Autumn lasts well into Oct. Up here in Scottish Borders : Any Cut needs to heal before the Tree goes Dormant again. So our Season stops really by Sept. Allows the Tree to prepare for Winter and be well shaped and managed before next Seasons Growth and subsequent Fruit Crop. 😏 You might have that until Oct for England and Wales. 👍

Thanks for this, I did 2 of 6 trees yesterday, but I needed more advice.

Some handy tips. I think quite a few of us have seen people say they can prune properly until they kill the tree.

Good job , I have 10 trees and use Felco 2 secteurs . Have it 20 years @ least . Your looking for an open centre (where possible) when you’ve a mature tree . Think of the tree full of leaves and the sun shining too down . That’s my theory…

Do us a favour and ask the Postman how to graft apple trees onto rootstock and can you use Blackthorn as rootstock?

Why don't you go to his channel and ask him there?😊😊 See Gruff's link above.

why anyone would want to take the middle out at knee height beats me you end up with a tree thats always in your way it ends up 3m wide with the branches coming out down there why not let it grow above head height and let the limbs come out from there so the fruit in summer hangs down to head height then in the winter the branches lift up out your way so you can walk round the garden next to the trunk instead of having to take wide berth around your trees
