Your welcome ! Plz don’t be nervous. It will put out new growth in no time. Specially in summer it will bounce back quickly. Just don’t water as much after pruning. After pruning there will less stems and leaves to absorb the water. Just prune one branch and wait fir few weeks. It will help you feel more confident to prune further. @PlantingwithTej
@PlantingwithTej 2 жыл бұрын
Please check out my other Jade videos. You need to start pruning it when it gets multiple branches. Jade plants can be pruned early on when their roots are established and they start putting out new growth. That way they don’t get too heavy at the top. I also move my Jade into bigger pots as they starting to grow. Any stems that grow from main trunk makes it thicker. You can let the branches grow for some time then prune them. Like I showed in the video. Move the plant in full sunlight. They like a lot of sunlight and let the soil dry out between waterings. Plant your Jade in regular potting mix instead of cactus mix and bigger pot. But be careful not to over water it. More soil will take longer to dry. You can stake them too if they start leaning to one side. I keep rotating the plant so they grow evenly.

Someone gave me a jade plant which she had outdoors, cats were sleeping on top of it so it was... it didn’t look well. I’ve always liked the jade plants specifically but usually from a distance as I haven’t had many. And I have never had good luck growing anything... I took it home, kept it outside but under the rooftop overhang... it did well. I replanted it into a half wine barrel and it seemed to like the extra space to grow. It’s turned into a healthy and thriving jade bush which, for my taste, isn’t nearly as attractive as a well pruned jade. Not knowing how to prune one... I ran across your videos. Thank you for sharing... I’ll leave it be for the winter and will prune it in the spring. I’d love to bring it indoors just for its own health but it really doesn’t seem to mind. I’m in Sacramento, California... we get some colder temps here occasionally dipping down to freezing. I’ll cover it with a cotton sheet, I’d heard somewhere not to cover them with the light, see-through plastic tarp I was going to use but I can’t remember the reason. My jade gets the morning sun but that’s it. I moved it once just two feet out from underneath the overhang and could tell within a couple of days it did not like it. After moving it back... 👍 I was surprised such a small move could make such a difference and that it was evident so quickly. It has what I think are flowering blooms on it on the side facing the sun even now in the winter... It’s been a real pleasure seeing it thriving especially after it being used by cats as a bed. It’s grown quickly over the last maybe three years... I wish I still had contact with the woman who gave it to me so I could show it off. ☺️ I subscribed and I look forward to seeing what other videos you have on the jade plants... Thanks again! 🦋

Sorry I missed you comment somehow and couldn’t reply to you sooner. Thank you for connecting and sharing your wonderful experience of saving the jade plant that was being neglected. It gives me joy. I’m so glad that it’s thriving in your care. Yes you can prune it as soon as days are getting longer and warmer so it can push out a lot of new growth. Just you know that my jade plant has never bloomed for me. I’m still waiting. Maybe it’s too cold here or it’s not enough or for some other reason. My biggest and the oldest one is 5 years old. I got it as a small plant from a friend. It has turned into a mini tree now. It is so cold here in Alberta, Canada. We cannot leave them outside during any winter months. I keep mine indoors all year around. But I don’t have curtains on my windows. They get plenty of sun. I have too many plants and some of them are in heavy pots. Like you mentioned that your jade didn’t like sudden change. It’s like with most plants. If you want to change their location like moving them from indirect light to direct sunlight, you need to acclimate them. You can move them a little bit for an hour so a day. Then slowly increase the time before moving them permanently. I agree it would nice to show the lady how that jade is growing and thriving in your care!

Thank you! Jade plants are very rewarding are easy to care for. You can revive any jade plant if it has heathy stem and roots. You can prune it hard and pot it an a fresh soil. You can also save a jade plant which has root rot or fungus if it hasn’t spread in all the stems. You can prune the unhealthy parts of the root and stem and clean your pruner and prune little more. Then you you can let them callous over and propagate those stems to make multiple plants.

I loved the video, amassing job and great explanation. A question that maybe you or someone else in comments could answer. I have a jade plant that is growing great and it’s making a ton of new branches in all the places that bigger leaves that were a little burned were before. It was in a place with a lot of sun when it got burned, but I wanted to know if that is something that happens normally for jade plants if they get burned or if it’s just a coincidence that both things happened at the same time.

Jade plants like to be in full sun. But if it was an indoor plant you placed it outside in a very hot day it can get sun bum on its leaves. But all my Jade’s that are in full sun. It could also happen if plant didn’t get enough water for some time and was in a lot fun as well.

@@PlantingwithTej Thanks a lot, that is really helpful to get a better idea. It´s probably a combination of the two factors you mentioned. I just bought jade plant from cutting, when I should start to prune it?
@PlantingwithTej
@PlantingwithTej 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on how big is your plant and how long ago this cutting was started. I wouldn’t recommend pruning a very young Jade plant. Once it has multiple branches, you can start pinching just the top. So it can branch out. Once it’s a year older then you can prune the lower branches or the one you want to get rid of. Plz comment any further questions.

@@PlantingwithTej I bought it last Nov with 5 leaves on it, now it's 6 cm high and only have 8 leaves. If I want to make it as bonsai, what should I do? I don't want it to be too high.
@PlantingwithTej
@PlantingwithTej 3 жыл бұрын
@Annisa Rahmah Its very young plant. I would let it grow little more. Once you feel it’s getting bigger than you would like , start pruning the very top ( the tip ). You can use the pruner and remove it. Then it will produce two branches. Once they start producing more leaves then you remove the top again. If you don’t want it to get taller then buy a small bonsai pot and you can plant in bonsai mix or just regular soil mix with perlite. Prune it every year or whenever you think it’s getting too big. You can also get rid the of the branches in the future to keep it compacted like I showed in the video. In the future I may make a video on how to prune small jade plants. But it’s pretty much the same process.

I have a very large jade plant with 8 stalks averaging 3” in diameter at the base. Is it possible to separate these trunks?
@PlantingwithTej
@PlantingwithTej 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can definitely separate them and plant them in separate pots If for some reason it’s combined at the base then you can cut it. But you need to keep the cutting in shade for few weeks to form a callus before you plant it in soil. Thicker stem will take longer to heal the cut. Then once it has formed callus you can plant it in a soil. Try not to water too much for few weeks. Once it’s established then you can move it in full sun and water normally by letting it dry between waterings. Feel free to to comment further questions.

@@PlantingwithTej I’m hoping to tackle this on the weekend. If I have to cut a stalk where do I cut it? I would love to show you pictures but don’t know how.
@PlantingwithTej
@PlantingwithTej 3 жыл бұрын
@@roxannarauch8825 you can cut it between the brown rings on stems. It’s called leaf scar. New branches will grow from there. If it’s at the very base where it was underneath the soil then you can slice it flush the the trunk like I showed in the video, if you don’t care about it producing another stem from down there. You can email me at plantingwithtej@gmail.com. I also have instagram under plantingwithTej.

I put mine outside in the summer after a super hard prune and it grows crazy fast. I'm in zone 5 (Chicago). Jade gets morning sun till about 1:30-2pm and then is in shade during the hottest part of the day. It gets rain water when it rains. And I water 1-2 times weekly if it's above 90

don't you get big festering scabs when you cut off larger branches? I love to bonsai these and tube jades, but once the cuts get too big the callous just gets bigger and uglier over time.
@PlantingwithTej
@PlantingwithTej 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t find it ugly. It’s barely noticeable. But it’s a personal preference. You can prune the branches before they get bigger. Just prune wisely from the start and keep the ones you know will not prune in the future. That will be the main structure of the tree and keep pruning the little one.

My jade has grown branches from the base twice. I let them get little bigger then I prune them because I like to have a single thick trunk. Normally when we buy a jade plant from a nursery or a store, they have few of the stems planted together to make it look fuller. They can be separated or kept together. If its together for a long time in one pot, you have to take it out and check if you are comfortable doing that. I don’t know how big and old is your jade but you can always prune the branches from the base as well if you like. Please let me know if yuh have any further questions.

I have a jade, I noticed this week it drooping and leaves are falling one by one. Any info you can share how to save my Jade?
@PlantingwithTej
@PlantingwithTej 2 жыл бұрын
First of all I would like to check if it’s over watered. Take it out of the pot and remove the soil if you see any soft or mushy roots then it has root rot. If there is no root rot you can see I’d it’s been under watered. But in that case leaves usually get very soft and wrinkly then the eventually get dry and fall off. But it takes long time that to happen. If it’s not watering issue , you can very closely check if it has any pests like spider mites, thrips, mealy bugs etc. Make sure to check under the leaves and inside the new growth. Let me know what you find. Then we can go from there.
