Glad you liked it! Mature yuccas when pruned are phenomenal. They can be a little rough looking if left unchecked.

I have yucca which flower most years. It started as a single plant that my aunt gave me when I first moved to this house and at the moment there are 3 tree trunks. I have to cut down some trunks every few years and also trim the divisions that happen at the top of the plant because if I left it, it would become far too wide. It seems to grow like crazy and keeps trying to expand sideways, even though I’m in north west U.K. where our climate is damp and grey most of the year. It even rains in between sunny spells in summer. My question is this: why do my yucca trees split into two at the top after I’ve trimmed off the old flowers? I’d like to be able to grow each single tree trunk to be very tall with a single head. I keep removing new top shoots in order to keep a single head but then it’s not perfect because cutting off part of a natural division causes scars on the plant. It never used to do this. It’s been happening since it flowers more now as it’s become older. It seems after flowering, the top of the plant always wants to split into two.

Yes mine are doing the same thing right now. It almost always happens right after a bloom. I actually don’t like when they bloom because I know this is going to happen soon after. You can definitely cut and replant new growth depending on the yucca species. I also prefer the single trunk look, but it’s hard to do sometimes.

Hey there. I just bought a house with tons of these yucca plants. I saw one video where he pulled off each leaf on base of plant and I really liked how it looked Vs just trimming it as you have which is also pretty cool. Mine are all trimmed like yours. So I worked my way up leaving many layers of cut leaves so it literally looks like a pineapple. My question is is it even ok to be doing that? The bark looks very fragile like I’ve ripped off the cambian layer. I thought the tree would be ok and heal itself if it needed to, but before I do this to all my yucca plants I thought I should ask an expert if this was wise. Tysm for any response. Love your channel!

Hi! Yuccas are super tough. Some consider going way up as over-pruning, but I think it’s just a preference on the look of the plant. If you want send me a pic of what they look like on my Facebook or Instagram if you have those social networks.

You mean the leaves bending down? I’m not sure, my Recurvifolia does that when they get older. My gloriosa doesn’t usually do that. They seem to have stiffer leaves.

This is improper . Now it looks like a pineapple. Best to pull dead or damaged or unwanted leaves downward to remove them . Looks better this way and u don't end up with dead debris still attached to the tree .
@northeasthardytropicals541
@northeasthardytropicals541 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I wouldn’t say it’s improper, simply my style of doing it. I hear what you’re saying though, the smoother trunk look on the way bottom is better looking.
