If you use a free ISBN does that mean they potentially own your book?

No, a free kdp isbn, for example, just means it's only usable on their specific site. You have full rights and aren't promising exclusivity but if you want to sell it elsewhere you have to pay for an isbn.

havent watched it all the way through yet but do you have any tips on this? So im 14 and looking to publish my book soon, i was looking through amazon KDP and when i got to tax imformation it asked for a tax code. Becasue im under 18 i dont pay taxes so i dont have a tax code. I can't use my parents becasue i dont want to IRS on my doorstep, so any info? i'll take it for anyone lol

Really? I wanted to use KDP to publish my book .. but if that's the case then I'm lost again .. I'm hoping notion press is worth it sigh ..

I have not had this problem. If you're registering as an individual, you shouldn't need a tax number. You will, however, probably need your SSN. That being said, I don't know if you are allowed to have a KDP account under 18. I would definitely look into requirements and check out the KDP help and resources page!
