Dangdodge: Thank you for this video. I converted my paddle boat to electric but I ran into some issues. My boat has a narrower space between the hull and so when I installed the motor, the prop would hit the hull if I turned the trolling motor left or right. I had to set up, using clamps, the trolling motor so I couldn't use it for motoring until it was below the hull or if I had the trolling motor facing straight forward. The clamps work great because when I come to shore, I pull the motor up an fasten the clamp. Also, I used a wood dowel rod instead of steel. Everything else worked fine. It was fun engineering the minor differences between yours and mine but the video was the encouragement to undertake the project. I will be using it on smaller lakes to fish along the shoreline. One other note: I also mounted two oars on the paddle boat using clamps and installed oarlocks. I hope I never have to use them but they are handy just in case the battery goes dead or the motor quits.

I saw this video a long time ago and think it's great! I bought a peddle boat last year for my little pond and its not working out like I expected and now thinking of doing this conversion. One of the problems I have is the hull takes on water thru the paddle shaft unless I sit in the middle seat. I cant see how the threaded rod that replaces the paddle shaft would not be a problem for allowing water in the hull as it does not always stay above the waterline. I am thinking I will just seal off all the shaft holes. thanks for sharing!
@AddamSantana6 жыл бұрын
I put a motor on the back, kept the peddles. Put a canopy on it too. All you gotta do is wrap some sheet metal on the back. Plenty strong for a trolling motor. Took five minutes, and have used it several times. You don't have to remove peddles or the rudder! Here's the video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYPQhKONhZKMsNE

Similar as the motorized version of this paddle boat as I have seen pics of where the motor goes. Thanks! By the way what size PVC pipe?
@InfinityVision4 жыл бұрын
Did you ever build it? I understand if you build it this way (motor fixed in front of the existing rudder like original design) the battery should be placed in front to balance. Also seems like a pain trying to transplant the motor controls up front by the existing steering.

Why didn’t you put the pipe through the hole for the pedal shaft? I know it’s offset so the shaft doesn’t hit the rudder steering arm but surely you could have used a slightly shorter downturn to allow a 90 degree elbow setup. I feel like there must have been something else preventing you from doing it this way since you designed a nice setup.

Downfall in order to go forward to trolling motor has to be in reverse another thing way too much PVC but the trolling motor on the back of the get rid of the rudders and the thanks and everything the trolling motor you want do use needs to have feet pedals so you can control the speed with your feet and not your the same bar that turned your rudder you can now hook up to the trolling motor and use that to turn the doing it this way you will get a tighter turn with the boat plus having the shaft where it can't move like that if you hit a stump destroy your motor
@michaelmckenna9022 Жыл бұрын
Why not leave the pedals for when the battery dies.
@bigred68156 жыл бұрын
I don’t mean to ask a dumb question but is it possible to have the pedals and the motor feature so a person operating the boat can alternate? Also thanks for explaining everything so well. Are you in the teaching profession?
@davida.simpson70115 жыл бұрын
You can but the paddle wheel will turn as the trolling motor pushes you along. The pedals will also turn so you either have to position your feet out of the way or pedal along with it. Also slows you down quite a bit. Aquacycle makes an electric motor kit designed for paddle boats that looks pretty nifty but it cost over $2,000.

My first thought was Wow, that's neat. Then I figured it would be moronic to remove the entire paddling system to then strap some paddles on the side of this thing just in case the engine dies in the middle of the water for whatever reason. Why not just hook it up in the back and build a homemade arm extension with a steering wheel? Now that would be really something to play with. Not to mention how safer,more powerful and healthy it would be to keep the paddle system.
