How to put LT heads on LS block Pt 2

I just wanted to post this video for all the guys that are thinking of doing the LT head swap,  there was probably a pile of questions I never answered or a lot of information I got missed, hopefully some of this information helps. Good luck boys.

Hey kory I have a l84 long block trying to use the heads on a lm7 block so what I heard on your video is that is possible to use a rotating assembly of a gen 5 engine on a gen 3/4 block ?

You should have no issues using the connection rods and pistons, I’m not 100 percent sure on the crank because the oil pump is different

I’m a hard sell on this. For a 5.3 maybe. But a square port head does just fine for the 4” bore and bigger.

Not nearly for the same $ though, and offers the possibility of going DI, as well as an LT4 blower. Which is what he's going to.

What was your compression with the 6.0 with L83 heads? Did you notice a big difference going to the L86 head?

Didn't notice much of a difference, I think it's 1.4 cc diffence between the two head

What is the minimum Bore required to run these heads?

The LT1 heads would be 4” bore minimum, anything under that you would have to use the 5.3 version of the head, the valves are a little smaller, but the combustion chamber smaller so you would have a small bump in compression

I do believe so, it’s really hard to find flow numbers for the 5.3 version, the chambers are 57.6cc and the valves, the intake valve on the 5.3 head is .072 smaller than the valve on the 243 but the port sizes on the 5.3 and the LS one are the same.

What head gasket did you use on your 5.3 combination?

Are used a Felpro MLS gasket from a 2008 LM7 engine, you can find them dirt cheap on rockauto.com

better flow on lt heads are because of not spraying fuel into runners and when u do port injection u have some flow number as stock ls3 heads

Sorry to disappoint you but flow numbers are flow numbers, every head is tested by flow with air, they don’t add an air fuel mixture when measuring CFM just because it port or direct injection, why would they have bothered to redesign the head, by your theory if a LS3 head and a LT1 heads flow the exact same when running port injection, it should be true that they flow same if they were both direct injection, correct? why would they have redesigned the head/engine spend millions in research when they could have converted an LS3 into a direct injection and have the same result???

@@Macburton96 i don't make anything out of myself .. i see flow chart are same for both heads but LT heads respnd better on power and LS3 heads flow gets lower in action because fuel injection in intake runners ... if you try ls3 heads on DI engine u will see it can work good as LT heads, BTW please answer me can fuel port injection can cause lower flow?

In a way, you’re correct but also you’re wrong, The fuel won’t slow as fast through the runners because it creates more fiction than air, that still does not impede the airflow itself because they are two separate molecules. They are just travelling together. It’s like if you were to run water versus air, air would be better because it creates less friction, that being said to say that both heads are identical and would produce the same result is incorrect, the LT heads do flow better but not by much, all you are doing is comparing flow numbers, and saying that both heads are identical, you have not taken into account that both heads have different runner they both move things differently, you’ve not taken into account that the combustion chambers on both heads are designed completely different, and you have not taken into account that the combustion chamber is 13 cc smaller than an LS3, to say that they were both produce the exact same result if they were both port injection or they were both direction is completely false, that would be like saying if I took a Chevrolet head, a Ford head and a Mopar head that all have the same combustion chamber, the same flow rating and I put them on the same engine, that engine will make the exact same horsepower every time, everyone knows that’s false, because every single one of those heads are design completely different and have different applications
