How to Put on and Replace a DeWalt Angle Grinder Blade

Here’s how I replace a blade on my Dewalt angle grinder. Push button to lock rotation, loosen flange with hex wrench, remove disc blade, replace with snug fitting 7/8” arbor-fitting blade, lock rotation, tighten. Done.

My brother lost his vision in one eye from doing this. 4” grinders spin at +13k RPMs, the larger blades only are supposed to go to around 7-8K max. The blade came apart and some of it went into his eye even though he was wearing glasses. It’s almost like the safety guards and warning labels all over the tools and blades are there for a reason

Angle grinders are the absolute most dangerous tool anyone has in their toolbox. Taking the guard off is absolutely insane. New flash... You don't find out it was a bad idea from " the school of hard knocks" You find out when a piece of the blade fly off of a blade spinning at 11 to 13 k/ minute. That'll do some serious re-arrangement, if you understand what I am saying. When you say... "Angle grinder" Think Danger!

The title of this video should be called, "Quickest way to lose a finger". Seriously, putting a diamond empregnated circular saw cut off wheel on a 4-1/4 angle grinder by removing the safety guard, then telling people it's OK to do that? I'm going to borrow your video and post it on "Clown world"! By the way, um is technically not a word, consider how ignorant a person sounds when they use it so frequently in a training video.

I was told by a friend when I bought the 4.5 grinder to remove the center gold ring from the diamond blade. He said the nut center piece will snug inside the blade for a better fit. I’m sure that ring was that center piece of that 4” blade.

Agree yes. I feel that my crew takes risks with powers tools, I do too, so I recommend protecting eyes and teeth at a minimum.

What are we supposed to do with the 2 washers that came in the diamond blade package?

The washers you don’t need, at least on the DeWalt, they will melt from the heat or at least become comprised. The blade rotates against the thread so it won’t come off. Hope that helps.

I have the same Dewalt grinder. Question: In the instruction manual it states that you need to use a different 2 sided guard when using a cutting wheel. The unit only came with a one sided guard and a grinding wheel. So do I have to separately purchase a new 2 sided guard in order to use a cutting wheel, or can I use the one sided guard that came with it? Many thanks!

If I am correct, you can use a 3 1/2” cutting wheel with the one sided guard. The only reason why I do not use the guard is that we use the grinder for paver and brick cutting and use 6 1/2-7” blades, and then just throw caution to the wind and cut. We actually wear eye protection and i will also wear a mask to protect my teeth just in case something flys back. And gloves of course. I hope that helps.

you did not mention which side the locking clamp nut should be attached. one side is flat (for cutting wheels et al) and the other side has a circular lip. you have the flat side against the cutting wheel which is correct. should be mentionED CAUSE IT MATTERS!

Omg! First, putting a larger blade on a small grinder is dangerous. No guard? Larger blades are rated for lower RPMs and there is a good chance that the grinder spins too fast for the blade. The blade could disintegrate and you would have no protection. Pull this video down from KZbin.

Safety first, always. We have never had a mishap and the seasoned crew I work with prefers this method. Larger grinder blade on a grinder seems to work for us. I wear eye and teeth protection and ear pops, the other guys don’t.

The centrifugal force would be powerful,because of the size of the disc would make it very hard to control.
