Excellent C9 Christmas lights prep. I really appreciate all the detail on the various plastic fasteners and the pro/cons for each. For someone that has not done this before, the various demonstrations on how (and how-not to) string up the lights are priceless. And, excellent close ups with the camera. Great video. My wife convinced me to buy icicle lights this year for our house. I opened the first of eight boxes and knew immediately that this wasn’t going to end well. Those icicle lights are horrible. I put the lights back into that first box and brought all eight boxes back to Hobby Lobby and exchanged them for the classic C-9s!!

The second clip shown around 4 minute mark is actually fairly decent especially given the price. I have used them for years and it works out nicely when you combine C9 with icicles as you can use the small loop to hold the secondary wire if you choose to do so. By the way, I think you're supposed to clip it around the neck and it doesn't budge at all. I do agree putting together hundreds of these clips are not fun.

0:01 the modern day Bing Crosby! In situations like 11:34, I always put electrical tape over the light bulbs so the aren't lit up in the areas that you don't want them, just to clean this up a bit. Lights look great this year! Nice and bright.

those little palms look really nice. What you need is a green led LCN for that peak
@z0ned27 жыл бұрын
LCN! The Yellowing on your C7's is because you got water in your christmas lights and it dried / rust+residue . The way you are angling your lights now will help prevent this. Your clips you used are overkill, they are designed for the lights + ice sickle lights.

@montegoalie7 жыл бұрын
I use the clip that comes with my lights. It actually does a good job on my gutters and is a lot quicker than dealing with adding clips. One thing about using the clips on the lights is they have to be orientated the right way. I have one strand that has the clip on the other side so I use that strand with clips on my shingles.

Not bad for a lawn nut, but you always want the bulbs vertical, there is more surface area, when you lay the bulbs down, you are lowering the amount of bulb visibility, also use spt-1 core, its neater, cleaner and you can cut it to fit your exact dimensions

Hey LCN, I am curious why you didn't buy a spool of commercial stringers, along with zipwire/plugs and screw in bulbs? The clip he recommends (called Omniclip) is the best clip because you can pull the whole string down without climbing a ladder. The clips come down with the lights. Not true with the other clips. Pay attention to starting with the female or male end of the string and how you'll power the string. You may have to install the bulbs backwards when installing them on a gutter. I add a twist-tie on the string where I reverse the clips for next year. If using classic C9 bulbs, be sure to pay attention to thr number of bulbs and the quality of wire (SPT1 OR SPT2).

I have successfully made custom strings of the regular C9 old style lights by just cutting the wires where I needed to and soldering in new wires in place, covered with shrink tubing.. I did around 1,400 C9 old style lights this way on our old 2-story Tudor style house in WA. for 10 years, never had an issue, problem, etc... And those babies ran all night long, every night..

I need a solution to not do the unclipped runs up the roof to the next set of gutter or shingles. Yours is so neat but then that run up the roof looks kinda sloppy. Can you remove individual bulbs for that run?

If you are attaching these clips to shingles, wear gloves. The fiberglass from the shingles feels like millions of needles on your hands / arms after putting these clips up. Takes about a day to recover. Found out the hard way this year.

how would attach lights to a metal roof line?!?! I came from a house with a gutter and shingles, now my new house has no gutters and a metal roof. Last year I tried using clips just like these and they just slid right off the metal roof with th weight of the lights. I've looked for magnetic clips to no avail. Any tips are helpful! Thanks!!

The last time I put lights up, I had a fire in the garage! Hey Allen, I live in the "transition" zone i.e., Raleigh, NC. Don't I need to do anything different as far as putting down the pre-emergent for crabgrass? Or, can I follow the same rule-of-thumb using the blooming forsythias as the gate to put down the pre-emergent?

I have a question for you, allyn. If one side discharges the grass into their lawn when cutting, assuming you go up and down, left and right etc. then all the clippings will be dropped in parallel lines, and there will be separate parallel lines with no clippings. wouldn't this make your lawn have healthy lush green stripes and then have average, not very green stripes?
@natee61215 жыл бұрын
The clips you show at 3:28 are actual great clips and more durable then the ones you use. Your problem is those clips are designed for a different shape bulb then the lights you have. In fact the lights you're using are less common then most.
