Tomorrow is my day for planting my garlic. I will go to the produce market where I get seedlings and seeds and hope that they have not sold out of garlic. I checked my garden and I have a few bulbs that have put up fresh green leaves. If the market doesn't have any can I dig up and plant what is coming up in my garden?
@THERUSTEDGARDEN5 жыл бұрын
If you dig them up they might not have lots of cloves yet. Hopefully you find some. Check out my seed shop for all your seed starting supplies and end of the year seed discounts. www.therustedgarden.com

Hi Gary! I planted garlic this past Fall, October. Last month, the evil grass cutter man (no names mentioned) lol, ran over my garlic bed. 2 stems have gently grown back. When is the time to pick garlic? How do I know whe its ready to pluck out? Thank you!

Usually the green grow yellows and falls and that is when you harvest. I would dig a few up and see how they look. @@THERUSTEDGARDEN Gary, thanks so much for your reply. Garlic grows here no problem in Montana. I just have to use grow bags so want to provide more protection. I have friends in Alaska zone 3 who grow it in beds with no special care and it always does fine that far north as well.

Would snow cover be a problem for the container? I want to use a pair of heavy immovable planters for this, which will probably be under snow come January. I know that's an insulator, but enough to get through? Zone 6a Ontario. Thanks!
@THERUSTEDGARDEN5 жыл бұрын
Nope. A layer of snow can be insulating which you noted. I think the out edge of container might be issue but center would be fine. Check out my seed shop for all your seed starting supplies and end of the year seed discounts. www.therustedgarden.com

So I added some espoma organic fertilizer to some mg potting mix, but I used the recommended amount on the bag which is like 2 cups per 1 cubic foot. My pot was about 2 cubic feet. Is that too much fertilizer for garlic?
@rickysyoutubechannel77494 жыл бұрын
I was asking cause miracle gro has added fertilizer in it, and I was worried I might burn my garlic's roots.
@THERUSTEDGARDEN4 жыл бұрын
It is okay. the MG stuff is slow release and so is the organic ferts. It wont hurt. Please help me build a greenhouse for FreeTown Farm, a non-profit I am volunteering at.
