not working, after defining the funckey, pressing r simply types an 'r' in the command-line, closing the commandline made no difference either

Hi @jonsonj5249, it's difficult to troubleshoot without seeing your steps, files, etc. but here are some tips that may help: 1) Make sure the placement window is closed. If the placement window is open, pressing R will highlight components whose reference designators start with R. 2) Make sure you are pressing R when in the PCB canvas- not within the command window.
