Footsteps are different depending on level and texture of ground...you can estimate where your enemy is at within that distance...but hey I might be wrong maybe he has a good gaming chair or an awesome headpiece

When you have a UAV, it will tell you what level he's on, if there's an arrow pointing up, he's above. If there's an arrow pointing down, he's below you. If there isn't an arrow, he's on the same level as you
