Im watching this two years after it was made. I am learning machine embroidery and found a way to quilt blocks or quilts in an embroidery machine. Lots of possibilities. But I am not a quilter, really. For a sewing class I made a lap quilt the traditional way, piecing a topper then making a sandwich with the whole quilt… it was so hard to get that big of a piece (times three) to be laid out and pinned together, I decided I wanted to learn QAYG. And then the next question, of course, “I’ve got blocks made, now what?” And started researching. This method makes sense and you explain it so well. Now I’m going to go watch the back to back method video!

It seems like the batting in the sashing strip where it lays over the seams of the spacer strip would make it bulky along there. Would it still work to use a narrower strip of batting that would fit the space between the seams and not overlap? I realize that would require quilting that strip to keep the batting in place since it won't be caught up in the topstitching. I like the stars cornerstones, very striking in the strip quilt!
@PQWQuilting2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue, Thank you for watching my QAYG videos, to answer your question. When developing my QAYG techniques I tried all sorts or batting and where the batting should lay in the joining process. I found if I laid the batting in the spacer strip and then put the sashing over the top the batting sucked the sashing down and it created a big ridge. Laying the Hobbs Fusible batting in the sashing strip I do not get the ridge and no bulk at all at the seam. If you are wanting to use other battings to the Hobbs fusible give it a go on a trial piece first. As I always say there are no rules its what works best for you. Please let me know how you go would love to see photos of your creations. Cheers Pauline

I just found this wonderful technique for Quilt as you Go. I have a question. I have a quilt in the working , have already attached my 5 blocks with strips the normal way(across the quilt) but have not sown the rows together. There is another strip that connects the rows between the block I have NOT done yet. Could I quilt the rows I have already sewn together ( quilt a roll of five) with backing then connect the 5 rows with this Quilt as You Go technique. After seeing this I will not quilt a quilt on my domestic machine, again!! Thank you for your help

Hi Donna, The most popular of my Sashers is the set of 10 as it gives you a wide range of sizes, in saying this if you just wanted to start with one or two I would suggest the 11/4" and or the 2".
