I purchased a black, sleeveless Calvin Klein dress today on sale for super cheap, and it’s great except for the plunging v-neck which isn’t a style I would wear to work. Since it was 75% off, I was willing to buy it and see if I could alter the neckline. So this video gives me some ideas. Thank you for posting it!

Thank you so much! I find V-necks the hardest to alter depending on how deep the plunge. I’ve taken long dresses with plunging necklines and made them shorter, then I used the material from the bottom to make a panel piece in the neckline. If it’s already short enough then that doesn’t help. Good luck! ❤️

Thank you for this tutorial! I was able to raise the neckline on a dress I thrifted! It was also my first time sewing in sleeves and it was surprisingly easier than I expected. Thank you again for sharing!

Thank you for this video. Modest necklines are always in fashion but not always easy to find. Did you take equally from the seam at back and front or just the front? Does it make the arm opening smallet? I subscribed...just found your channel. Best wishes for the soon birth of your child.

Hello!!! Thank you for subscribing! I did take it up equally in the front and back. So if I’m taking off 1inch in the front I will take off 1 inch in the back as well. The sleeves will become smaller. You can just bring the sleeve in at the seam as well if you need to. I always pin my sleeves back on to check them before I start sewing. If you have anymore questions I would be more then glad to answer what I can! Thank you again! ❤️

Another way is to add elastic band through the neck

I have a sweatshirt with a V-neck that's too low. How can I close this V-neck?

Im getting back to you 1 year later. I can see more comments on my computer then my phone, and I use my phone all the time. Anyway, it all depends on how much wiggle room you have. Just taking off the sleeves and bringing the shoulders up then reattach the sleeves. So it just depends on how much room you will have to give.

Too fast, and what did you do with the cut binding?
@martinmade08

I will try to slow things down. This was one of my first videos. The cut binding with the cut edge gets rolled over 2 times then attached.

Not meaning to be rude but less talk, and proper video focus on what was happening could have helped me understand better 1. Did you snip off the top of the shoulders? 2. Did you redo the armhole measurement

elena thank you so much for your advise. I am by far an eloquent speaker and it’s something I am trying to work on. I have a hard time putting to words what is going on in my head, but I’m working at being better. Thank you so much for the input. 1. Yes I did snip off the extra at the shoulders. 2. Yes the sleeves will need to be adjusted. I take the same measurement that I cut off of the shoulder and bring the sleeve in at the seam by that much. Ex: So if you are bringing the shoulder up 1”, then sew the sleeve in by 1”. You might not want to bring the entire sleeve in by 1”; and in that case you can start at 1” (at the under arm) and taper it all the way to where the seam was originally. I hope that helps if you need something else cleared up I can do my best to clear that up for you as well. Thank you again!

Very helpful video but couldn't hardly hear you at all once you actually started doing things. The volume pre-instruction and post-instruction was great but not likely to try this since I couldn't hear the actual "how to" part.

You're cute! The designers should quit making plunging necklines because no female likes them. We pay for a garment to have access to wear and then always have to struggle taking them apart to make them right in the first place. When will they ever learn to make what females want to wear and not what they want to see?
@martinmade08

I do totally agree with you! I find that most females want to be comfortable and look nice. That’s why females often just move into the T-shirt and sweat pants faze, because they just want to be comfortable. But then they often look down on themselves because they feel like they don’t put much effort into their appearance like others do. But in reality they just want to be comfortable and look nice doing it. Why the fashion industry doesn’t think of that is beyond me. I think they would make more money if they thought that way. ❤️

You stated this is for beginners but you sped up all of your sewing steps causing much confusion. Slow down. Not everyone is in their twenties and has a speedy response time. After all, you are the teacher and need to cater to ‘all’ ages and provide more step by step instruction for a better learning experience. I am an avid quilter and am trying to learn more about clothing alterations. I think a couple of teaching tweaks will really enhance your videos. I did enjoy the content and will tune in again to see if any changes have been made. I like your approach and would love to be a regular subscriber.
