Josh, Been following you for a while. Starting a small homestead on 33 acres in Northern NH. and have enjoyed your shared experiences. Just cleared a few acres for fruit trees. 10 raised bed vegetable beds keeping us busy during canning season. Had layer chickens up until this fall when we had two nights of bear visitations clean us out. Trials and tribulations of the area. Felt really bad for the ladies. They were just about 18 months old. Caught it all on a trail cam. Please keep all the great info coming. Your videos make my day!

I built my children tractor very close to what you have. Same size too. This will be the second time for us but I will grow out 60 this time. I will move the tractor twice a day just so they stay on fresher grass.

60 is too many birds for this small of a coop...ask me how I know lol...way too much manure load I recomend 35 birds for a 10X12 to finish them....that's still fairly crowded

Hi! We have a sick chicken. She has a respiratory infection. She is wheezing and having trouble breathing. We cant find any over the counter antibiotic so we are currently giving her human amoxicillin that was left over from an infection I had. The capsules are 500mg. We mixed about 1/4 of the capsule with water and we're giving her half of the solution each day. We are also giving her 1 drop of VET RX directly in her mouth 2 times a day. Is there anything other than what we're doing or something different you suggest we do for her?

Can’t speak for others but for me it’s for 2 reasons: (1) After a couple of years PVC left outside in sun and temperature swings becomes brittle and starts breaking and (2) PVC is one of the worst plastics in terms of environment and health concerns. They have toxins and endocrine disrupters such as dioxins, phthalates, vinyl chloride, ethylene dichloride, lead, cadmium, and organotins that are released both in the production of it and during the lifetime of it, the fact that it doesn’t decompose but rather granulates as it breaks down, leading to micro plastic pollution and it’s very difficult to recycle. All-in-all just a nasty product if you’re thinking generationally.

This is a question I get all the time....not sure why ...the coop is open on all sides....the sun isn't stationary in the sky...it's moving..so in the morning they have direct sun...evening direct sun....mid day..during the heat they have shade....typically they stay out of direct sun unless it's cold out...I've really had folks lay into me about the "not getting sun"...seems pretty ridiculous that folks don't understand that these birds will perish if left out in direct sunlight...just like puppies, kittens, baby goats and any other young animal. These birds will roast out in the direct sunlight without shade

@@pehgt5099 the leaves and stems can be boiled but the tubers are what most people eat. I grate them and make fritters with a little bisquick and sugar or use them in stews instead of potatoes.

The problem with using common names is people call different plants the same name. Taro grown for its edible tubers is usually Colocasia esculenta. It looks very similar to an ornamental plant some call elephant ears or Alocasia macrorrhiza and other Alocasias. The tuber of the ornamental Alocasia is inedible with some varieties poisonous. Both Colocasia and Alocasia are in the same family (Araceae). Before eating, please make sure you know what you have.
