To tighten the S shower arm, take a screw driver stick it inside S arm end where the shower head goes then turn clock wise that will help tighten the arm around and to really see if there's any leak use your flash light to look inside the hole where you screw the shower arm in you can see better if there's any leak.

Very helpful. I just bought my first home, first night in the house me and my wife went to shower and our pipe is turned facing to much towards the wall, possibly just not tightened all of the way. I was afraid of using too much force because i didnt wanna break or bust anything, as im not that knowlegable in any plumbing unless it's toilets, but now i know i can twist and tighten it more, just need pliers.

My "nose rinser" is long overdue for replacement. It's either something like this, or tear the wall apart for a formal plumbing re-do, and re-tiling, etc. Cheers

Don't forget about your pipe dope. I normally light up and smoke before doing any type of plumbing work.

I need help on this I am trying to replace mine but it's like my pipe goes pretty far into the wall I am not a able to put the cover on. It's hung up on the wall and the bottom curve of the pipe.

That would be such a pain in the ass trying to shower when the shower head is mounted to the wall 6ft up. How do you even clean yourself like that? I mean armpits would be easy enough since they're kind of close to the shower head but how do you rinse off lower parts of your body? Just getting a hose attachment shower head makes things so much easier.

Great Tutorial. Installed ours, however, the S Pipe is so close to the wall, I can't get the flange down to cover the hole in the tile. It's stuck about a third of the way up. Any suggestions? It's almost like I need one that snaps together around the base of the pipe.

I know it's been two years, but hopefully this could help anybody else who didn't think of the obvious solution: keep the flange down on the straight pipe that goes into the wall while you screw it in so it does not become trapped up top afterwards...

Couple of questions: 1. Why did you use a cloth when removing pipe? 2. Is it necessary to caulk around flange cover?

Great video. Never knew that type of shower pipe existed. One fine point: the little metal disc around the shower arm isn’t a flange, it’s called an escutcheon. A flange is either for adding strength or for mechanical attachment. An escutcheon is a separate piece that serves as a decorative shield.
