This was an ace vid which I used to fix up my own Indy. Wicked perfectly and I used every trick shown. Thank you from Australia during quarantine!

Great video and nice discussion of detail Matt! I appreciate you taking the time to shoot this video and provide such a great explanation. Although I don't have anything I would like to replace the decals on, I have done similar graphics on cars, etc. and your technique is spot on! Well done!

Makes me kinda glad that I have an old painted pinball cab from 1986. I suppose I could have done a decal on it but I am a purest on pinball machines I work on. I do ustreams when ever I work on my pin. I have not done anything with it in a long time and need to get back to it. Doing that wood filler sure brought back filling holes and dings and the leg corners looked similar to the one's on the Indy pin.

looks perfect however I would ask you to try this If you go to the pinball factory in Chicago you may see them working putting these stickers on the cabinets they use 5% soap with water sprayed on cabinet work before applying sticker that way you can remove it if needs adjusting seems counterintuitive but I have used this method since 1985 saves a lot of headaches and money. Cheers from California
@tattyadams
@tattyadams 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that, there are 2 ways of applying decals, the wet and dry method. The wet method allows you some repositioning before they adhere properly. Personally I don't think the adhesive is as effective following use of the wet method but its all down to personal preference :-)

Yes, I agree, I just think its personal choice whichever you use although with the dry method you have to get it right 1st time!

My tip to add to this great video is to use a new razor blade after every few cuts. The blades will dull quickly and that is when you can screw up a cut and possibly tear the vinyl. Those knives have lots of snap off blades, so just break one off every few cuts and then you won't have any issues.

Top job! I just wanted you to know that you're very good at these instructional demonstrations. Good clear explanations of your thought processes and nice description along with thoughtful camera shots. There are plenty that can do what you do but not many that can show it well. Anyway, I've been complementary so I'll balance it out by mentioning one criticism. I'm a grammar nazi and I notice you use the word "etcetera" quite a lot but pronounce it ECK-SETTER-A instead of ETT-SETTER-A. ;)

I would like to know how to do that on the backbox too. The back, where the warning text is, is rough, so there must be an other method to sand it..?

Hi, thanks for your kind comments, it’s funny isn’t it, I notice people on the TV when they repeatedly say something or (one that particularly annoys me) have a rising intonation at the end of their sentence, unfortunately I think it is my accent that you are hearing (sort of rough London) so there is probably not much I can do about it!

Yes you are absolutely right but machines like Indiana Jones were decaled in the first place. Not many were screen printed after system 11. I would take a nice original over a restored any day but when they are badly damaged or faded re-decaling them is probably for the good :-)
