Thank you, I can't tell you how much your video helped me. I rekeyed my deadbolt, and my door handle locks on both my front and my back doors making the same key plus a spare key! Your video is the best!

It would be interesting to see the tumbler and how that works. Once got a steel door that had a mortise lock on it but didn’t have any keys. Rekeyed that to a key I already had. The hardware store even gave me the pins I needed for free. Really proud of that door. It went from a big piece of scrap metal to a really good lookin door and cost nothing but time.

Excellent video, shockingly easy to do the job, though if you just look at the paper instructions it doesn't look so easy. Gold to have this video.

I hope the bottom was also supposed to be in the locked position .....about to find out.....hope not the hard way.

I just picked up 2 knob/deadbolt combos…to my surprise, the keys that came with each set are identical and open each other…are these keys “dummy keys”, or did I just get that lucky.

If it was in the same manufacturing batch, they'll have the same key combo. They only go through so many templates for combos. More than enough to not really be able to just get into someone's house with your key, but not enough that you won't have the same key between two locks that were on the shelf at the same time.

I tried this with my original keys that were about 20 years old. the smart lock did not work with the old key. it would not unlock. after fooling with it for about 10 minutes i was able to get the old key to turn, and reprogrammed the new key that came with the lock and it worked fine. If you have old keys that are worn, beware they may not work very well

What if I don’t have the original key to my dead bolt and I just bought a new Kwikset door handle set. Can I rekey the new key with the old dead bolt without the old dead bolt key?
