Thank you for the video. I just rescued an oncidium from the sales rack at my local garden centre. The pot is tiny but I’ll wait till after flowering

Hi there! Wondering why you add charcoal? Also, I'm curious about your preference for clay plots over say, plastic w/ holes/slits? Is it just aesthetics or do you find that the orchids respond better in clay?
@helloplantlovers2 жыл бұрын
Hi there - charcoal acts as an aerator so it keeps the mix light and it's also a natural anti-bacterial so it helps keeps the mix at optimum health for the roots. As to clay: aesthetics and a wish to not use plastics. Thanks for watching!

@@helloplantlovers I prefer terracotta too. I have an oncidium twinkle 'Lemon Jelly' x Joel that has just about finished flowering for me, that is going to get a fancy new pot very soon, as it has just started its Spring growth. It is currently potted in polystyrene and perlite, which is how it came. My calcium will come from crushed eggshells.

Question how often do you water it ? I water mine every 14 days
@helloplantlovers6 ай бұрын
Depends on the season and temperature...3-10 days.

After repotting my Oncidium my bulbs became wrinkled, should I be worried ?
@helloplantlovers2 жыл бұрын
Depends! What condition were they in? Did they have roots? Re-potting when there's new growths producing new roots is best. Don't be tempted to over water it though! Patience and regular Oncidium care should see you right.

@@helloplantlovers ♥👍It was in terrible shape , but it was what the seller sent me , when I checked for any new growth there was none and the roots were in sorry shape.. Some sellers have no shame.. I guess time will tell, but I don't think I will hold my breath waiting for this poor thing to recover . It's bulbs are as wrinkled as I am 😅
@helloplantlovers2 жыл бұрын
@@keepsmiling704 Oh dear - sometimes it's just not worth the battle! But try it in a largely sphagnum moss mix and a bit more humid than normal and see if you can stimulate a new growth which will produce new roots. You won't get new roots from the old bulbs unfortunately. Good luck!

I’ve been following you, as I am starting to grow outdoors in a similar climate-Santa Cruz, California (near San Francisco). But were you aware that Tim Lester, the man behind MicoGold, does NOT recommend MicoGold for epiphytic orchids? He consider it useless as they-being up in trees-have relationships with very different forms of fungi. He says that MycoGold certainly won’t hurt orchids, but it’s not going to help them either, since MicoGold is designed for soil cultures…
