I have a 5 year old Nepenthes that I have never repotted due to sheer fear lol 😂 watching your video has given me confidence but I have a couple questions... 1) Does the mixtures you used change depending on the type of Nepenthes?? 2) If I’m unable to find or buy the “Nepenthes specific soil mixture” (I’m in Canada) then how can I make it myself and what are the exact ratios??? I would so appreciate your advice :)

We rarely use a different mix for Nepenthes but for some very rare ones we use a mix with akadama. In general I would use New Zealand long fibered sphagnum moss as your base. Check out the FAQ on our website for all of our soil recipes so you can make you own if you need to!

I have let my Nepenthes kind of tell me how it wants to grow lol. I have one long stem that has been climbing up my wall that I’ve gently taped in one area for stability, and other stems that have been growing sideways and coiling around things. I’m not a pro, but for me I’ve just let it do it’s thing and added various items to prop up the stems that don’t seem to want to climb. If they trail down, so be it :)

We’re on a well with almost 0 TDS so our water comes out of the tap safe to use on carnivores!

My Nepenthes was huge and I finally got the guts to clean off the roots. It was tense, I think I lost lots of roots, hope it’s gonna survive 😳😬 it was really hard to tell apart the roots from the old moss. Oh well

It’s so tricky! If you notice any die back of the leaves that looks unusual, like as if they aren’t getting enough water, cut half the leaves off. This will better balance the root to leaf ratio if you lost roots!

We try to avoid transplanting them in winter but you can really transplant them any time as long as you baby them a little afterwards.

Is there a video showing or explaining how to tell the difference in species?I recently went to a corpse flower exhibit and bought a couple carnivorous plants.One is sarracenia “cobra lily” which I hear is hard to care for especially being I’m in the Midwest.but the other is a nepenthe “monkey cup” with no other information in regards to species or care.is there a way to identify the nepenthe that I have acquired?

In some of our videos we have a mix of different carnivorous plants but because there are many, many species and hybrids within genus we don’t have videos about them all. We have some species specific or hybrid specific videos though!
