How long should the sting fed through be?

I recommend starting with about 16 feet. Doesn't have to be exact, just a long stretch and go from there.

With way does the bump head spins right or left when doing a yard

When holding the weedeater normally and looking at the spinning head, it spins counterclockwise. So you'll want to use the right side of the spinning head to cut grass because the string is spinning away from you on the right side.
