Ty so much for sharing your knowledge. I just upgraded and ran out. I didn’t realize how easy it would be until your video. Ty again for doing this. 😊

it is crazy that you buy dewalt string and they do not tell you how to install the string.

I ordered the unit to replace the head on my Ryobi that basically fell apart. I had to replace the nut to match the threads on the shaft. I t was extremely difficult to turn the head to the unlocked position and then impossible to get it back on to the locked position. I called Ryobi and spoke to two techs that seemed to have no idea that there could be a problem. I had ordered it from HD so I sent it back and ordered another, hoping it was a one-off defect. Of course the 2nd one had the same problem. Thanks so much for this video - I was able to fix the problem. I had thought about WD40 but I'm always a little concerned about using it on plastic parts.😅

Thank you!! I initially took head off and didn’t work. Found this and Im back to weedwacking! If you removed head like I did, make sure the hole is lined up for line to go through. Took me a good while to figure out the hole wasn’t lined up but once realigned it was so easy! I found spinning the red ring easier for spooling the line on the head, but this is great!

Probably a dumb question but us .065 diameter ok? I just got an Ego at the thrift store for only $10! Came with battery and charger but no string. I have .065 string though.
@FixEverythingYourself
@FixEverythingYourself 11 күн бұрын
That will work but since the string is thin, it's not going to last very long and the motor has a lot more power than that string can effectively use. But shouldn't be a problem.

Where the belt loops around the opposite end, attached to the door… in the video, you simply lift the belt off. However, mine is covered. I can’t simply lift the belt off of it. I cut the old belt. It was already in shreds to begin with. Now, trying to fig out how do I get the new belt on without accidentally did attaching/taking apart some thing I shouldn’t.
@FixEverythingYourself
@FixEverythingYourself 13 күн бұрын
Yours has some sort of cover over the belt/sprocket location at the end closest to the garage door? Every garage door installation could be a little different so that doesn't sound too unusual. I also assume it's some sort of plastic cover? You'll need to remove that cover so you can lift the belt off. It's probably there to prevent dirt from getting on the gear/sprocket or to help the belt stay in place if it is misaligned and starts coming off. Mine has the same thing at the end closest to the motor.

@FixEverythingYourself

Most likely the string is wound in the wrong direction. Too much string coming out is what happens. Re-wind the string and make sure it's the correct direction. If you're holding the spool upside down when winding it, it'll be the wrong direction.
