Well first off you need to visit a surgeon to get a few bones taken out of your wrist to be able to do this.....no, not really im kidding - its really really hard (especially on the G string) but you do it in the same way providing you can actually do vibrato already. The movement will be limited and you probably wont dwell on those high notes as violin music is written for violinists and therefore composers know this.

Thank you once again for another excellent video. That's exactly what I was working on, as I'm workin with scales. I was doing it wrong, once again, because I touched the violin with the external part of my hand. Another problem I have with the «high notes», is that I don't have any sound for the E or F on the E string.

I've been playing for 13 years but recently I haven't been able to take lessons which has been rather detrimental to my progress as a player. Wow, I love how your so well detailed in demonstrating the proper techniques for this challenge. I'm just wondering, can this work for people that have small finger? So, no matter how high you go, your thumb shouldn't (even for the A7) right? Do you have a video on to get a good sound in high positions?

my thumb just slips of the arch back part of the violin, perhaps because of sweat... any suggestion on alternative positions of the thumb?

Do you change your bowing when your are in a high position? After 6 position I need to move closer to the bridge to avoid hitting other strings. Is it always like that or is there something wrong with my bridge?

+D. Løan A little, you just have to work 'harder' to get a nicer sound and take more care on your bow placement.

I am now trying to play these high notes. I am going through the last couple of pages of the book Introducing the Positions Vol II by Harvey Whisler. I have all ready learned all seven positions, these last few pages it introduces you to playing 8th through as far as 13th position. They show a note that is seven lines above the staff and they indicate fourth finger in XIII which is 13th position. How do you know where to find these notes? They don't show you where they are on the finger board. Is there a book on the market that can show you how to play these high notes and where they are so you can play them in tune. How do the pros learn this stuff? I am self-taught. I need help.

My hands are too small to have my thumb holding the Violin and reach those high notes. I have to hold it up with my chin and hope I don't drop my violin

I think that's my problem too. I have short fingers.

@@drandrewtan sometimes your hands are not flexible enough. You can try 'playing' in high position, stretch your hand as far as you can. This should help you. (I also have short fingers and a small hand, this exercise helped me a lot ^-^)

no. It is larger so you really can't get all the way up to the top without anchoring your thumb along the side of the fingerboard.
