Either Pirastro Tonica’s hate me or I hate them, it’s too sharp or bright for me and I don’t what strings to get for my violin, I have a solo in December and the song is Arabic and it just doesn’t sound right to me, I do like the e string better than the others. I _hate_ the way the A and D sound and the G is okay but not something that I would say is my favorite, I have a strad copy from 1964

So would purchasing a good set of strings and a better bridge,& bow help it sound better? I’m not a millionaire and can’t get an expensive violin.

🤔maybe an electric violin would be a good choice,as iam currently in a nursing home and looking to get my first violin. I really don’t want to bother anyone near me as I learn how to play it, at the same time I’m looking at an acoustic violin bundle

Thanks to the first tip, I did my first wrist vibrato correctly. Finally I managed. I must say, the hand (some muscles) quite hurt after that, I guess I need to learn using them. Wow.

Thank you for this lesson! Is it bad to not be bowing straight yet when doing these exercises? I find it a bit hard to focus on bowing straight and hitting the right string.

Once upon a time, I played cello in grade school. I have tried trumpet, guitar, and euphonium without success. I am getting a violin to go back to when I was having fun learning music. Since I have a lot of time due to disabilities, I am eager to become a decent player in record time. I think in 12 or so weeks I can be a decent violin player on the streets of my small town. I base this on when I was a bus driver, I was required to make announcements. The "average" time it took drivers to make announcements was two months. It took me two weeks. Why? I practiced at home for 2 hours per day (1 hour for each set of announcements). The practice was deliberate. What was I going to say when? Do I start with X and end with Y? etc. I used the actual job to perform the practiced routine. I made a lot of mistakes during the course of a 10 hour day (40 total announcements). Even with the mistakes I knew I was making, I continued to do what I practiced. Each night, I studied my notes and made changes the next day. I repeated this process until on day 5 of actual driving I realized a) I didn't make any mistakes and b) I got all of the right info into the announcements. At that point, i started adding flair to my routine. Two working days later I was taken out of service and grilled to find out how I "easily mastered" making announcement. My response was that I did not confuse practice with performance. My approach to learning violin will be 2 hours of focused practice in the morning followed by a few hours of performance (playing) in the evening. Take notes and plan for the focus practice in the AM. Rinse and Repeat.

can i completely silent the acoustic part of the violin and only use the electric violin through the amp?
@TheOnlineViolinTutor
@TheOnlineViolinTutor 17 күн бұрын
No - the closest you can get is with a fully electric violin, but even then you will still hear a little sound from thr bow on the strings as its just the way it is. It would be as loud as a regular violin, but this one is designed to play as BOTH acoustic (so like a traditional violin) and plugged into an amp. Does that make sense?
@sosscs
@sosscs 17 күн бұрын
@@TheOnlineViolinTutor I guess, but I just don't wanna make a lot of sound when I'm practicing because of people in my house. is there a way to at least reduce the sound by half?
@TheOnlineViolinTutor
@TheOnlineViolinTutor 17 күн бұрын
Not with one. As I said above its an electro acoustic violin. So it will play exactly as an acoustic/regular one (loud) but you can also plug it in. If you want to minimise sound level, then you're looking at an electric violin, but those are not recommended ro good to learn on as they are too quiet, so you dont really hear everything you need to hear properly. If your intended on buying an electric for the sole purpose of trying to keep the sound down, it will hinder you substantially.

I began learning to play the violin today. It's going to be a challenge. I play guitar, banjo, and harmonica. But I am self-taught, and I do not know how to read music. I only learned tablature so far. But there's something about the violin that draws me to it. I'm a new subscriber.

Great review on this - thank you! I am in need of 2 violins for my kids and I am leaning towards this very model. I would be buying 2. I will use your affiliate link if I decide to go with this one;) Question, what strings would you recommend upgrading to? I play a bit of guitar so I know that strings make all of the difference in the world. I do not know much about violins/violin strings, however.

Before the internet, only good violinist teacher can instruct about vibrato. I am 70 years old. I had 2 violin teachers and one viola teacher. Any of them gave me instructions how to do vibrato. For that by my self I began to use all arm vibrato. Anyway, I recommend all teachers to teach how to do it. In spite of the annoying, teachers need to supervise carefully how students are doing vibrato for correct use. Thank you to this violin teacher. I suggest to show all the arm in the screen. Thank you.

Great video, Alison! BTW: I learned to play the violin because, unlike the viola and cello, the violin - along with all my other instruments - plays in the treble clef; a music language I already know.

Thank so much for these videos. I hope you realize just how helpful you are. I'm trying to teach myself violin for the time being until I can find an actual (and good:) teacher. I didn't know at all where to start, but I then found your channel and started practicing. You build things up so well step by step and give just the right amount of information at once so it's challenging but not overwhelming. I actually see improvement since I first started, like I don't scratch much anymore, and it's because of your videos. Thank you again. ❤
