2. Check the main scale: The main scale is the bigger scale on the Vernier Caliper. Identify the number on the main scale that is immediately to the left of the zero line on the Vernier scale.
3. Check the Vernier scale: The Vernier scale is the smaller scale on the Vernier Caliper that slides along the main scale. Check which line on the Vernier scale lines up with a line on the main scale. Note the number value of the line on the Vernier scale that lines up with a line on the main scale.
4. Add the two values: Add the reading from the main scale and the reading from the Vernier scale to get the final reading.
For example, if the main scale reads 2.5 inches and the Vernier scale reads 0.3 inches, then the final reading would be 2.8 inches (2.5 + 0.3).
