I have learned over the years that patterns that state the unfinished size of each unit as you go along, contributes greatly to my success as it catches small imperfections that can be trimmed or restitched before they get lost causing even bigger issues farther into the sewing process. Thanks, Kimberly! ❤

Agree so much with you! It’s frustrating now when using a pattern that doesn’t do this, even from some well-established designers

Fat Quarter writes the best patterns. Easy to read and understand.

My favorite patterns are the ones where they show you how to make one block. My life is hectic and time is limited and sometimes I don’t get to sew for weeks, so having instructions for cutting out one block at a time works best for my sewing life and saves me from having to do quilty math. I also like when a pattern gives the measurements for each sewen unit that makes up the block. Great video, but then I am never disappointed. Thanks FQS

I struggle reading patterns. I often need a video to understand the steps. I am still a beginner so maybe eventually patterns will make more sense to me. For now I am grateful for KZbin videos and Fat Quarter Shop.

I have to say I've gotten spoiled by FQS patterns. The number one thing I love is that they include the unfinished size of each block section before sewing the parts together which results in a more accurate size finished block. My number 2 and 3 favorite things are the excellent diagrams and the pressing directions. I wish it was the standard for quilt pattern writing. I like also the system/method by which the cutting instructions are done as well.

I have been quilting maybe six years now and it is still a struggle at times to read a pattern. I'm thankful for the ones that are well written. I'm getting ready to do a quilt that cutting instructions are only for one block. So I have to do the math to cut for all 16! I never thought I'd need math, but then I started quilting! 😀 I'm still learning and appreciate your video on how to better understand pattern instructions!

I love reading quilt patterns. I could set and look at them all day. Fig tree quilt patterns are the hardest for me. I guess it’s how they are written, bust most of the patterns I love.

Y'all have spoiled me! There are some quilt patterns that are written so confusing that I have to read them several times, but not It's Sew Emma & FQS patterns. Love FQS so much!

Question - When a pattern gives the backing yardage , does this include extra for the long arm quilter ? 🤔
@FatQuarterShopTX5 ай бұрын
Hello Sue! We typically recommend adding 5" on all sides. For instance, if a quilt is 40" x 60", you need a piece that's 50" x 70"
