Thank you for this. Extremely helpful! Can you please explain something at about the 10:30 mm:ss mark? Your estimate shows a basis and rate in hours for supplies. For example, paint supplies = 8.7 hours @ $38.00 per hour, and body supplies = 2.9 hours @ $10.00 per hour. Do you know if that is some kind of industry standard or best practice? I would assume that body shops or estimators would simply use a basis of "each", "qty" or something similar. I will finish watching the video and I may also watch the video a second time to see if maybe I missed something that you pointed out earlier. Again, thank you for this. Highly informative, clearly communicated, greatly appreciated.

Dude I’ve been searching for approximately 4 hours on KZbin for some information about reading repair estimates and what certain parts mean - then I found this which is extremely close to what mine is except mine was Mitchell Cloud Estimating - I’ll tell you real quick version, I had a garage fire my truck was parked in the driveway, garage door closed until firemen broke it down but fire never touched my truck , minor heat damage and that’s it. I notice as the estimate goes down the lines it lists the prices on the right but some sections don’t show a Price , just units and some # symbols and * symbols but here’s what I find highly …. Bewildering …… those ones that are in code and show no prices are the exact lines that there is no damage to. Right fender, not a scratch, mark , soot or anything whatsoever it also lists cab roof panel, repair, 8.0* units - there is no damage up there I just went back today and took pictures confirming that. So anyway , thanks for the video , it can mean a lot to certain people who find it like I did - I’ll be contacting my insurance adjuster as well as the repair shop appraiser to ask why these items are on there - my truck runs awesome, they deemed it a total loss , the insurance adjuster doesn’t return emails or calls and the 1 time I did talk to her she was talking about a salvage title - unbelievable

I would ask the adjuster or his supervisor to explain. I've never written in Mitchell, so I'm not the expert, but those symbols typically mean a manual line, or a manually modified line. Fire is tricky to write for, they may need to strip paint off of seemingly undamaged panels if they in fact have fire damage. (which can be hard to detect) Your best bet is to contact someone at the insurance company who can explain it to you. You can always get a second opinion if you aren't satisfied. Good luck.

@autobodyadvocate6076 Жыл бұрын
I think you're asking me what your $200 miscellaneous cost is. I can't think of what that might be, I'd have to see the estimate. You might need to ask your adjuster or the shop to explain that to you.

Very informative! I assume we get to decline non-OEM parts (if there are OEM parts available). Am I right on. that?
@autobodyadvocate60762 жыл бұрын
Depends on your insurance policy. Most of the major insurers you see advertising all the time are budget insurance companies and the most cost effective part is typically used. Ask your insurance company.

Pricing will be up to each body shop. Customer pay could be more, the same, or less than the insurance company would pay.

thanks for the explanation. is there any way to tell what the OPT OEM means from the estimate itself or would I have to contact the body shop and rely on what they tell me?

Love it! You need a paint expert for an explanation on why your bumpers and plastic parts never match from the factory :)

What does “vehicle out” mean? On my estimate it says vehicle out: 12/29/2023
@kellydray44432 жыл бұрын
Now what if it states at the bottom of your looking like this listed below, Estimate ‐------‐---------‐--------------------------------- Recall Information -----------------------------------------------------' That the National Highway and Transportation Safety administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 safety- recall issue that may apply to selected vehicle. Then it states a NHTSA ID number. What does that mean?
@autobodyadvocate60762 жыл бұрын
You're vehicle may have a recall. The body shop may or may not be able/willing to help you with that. You can contact the dealership service department to take care of recalls.
@kellydray44432 жыл бұрын
Thank you. So basically it is saying jt has a issue that was the cause of the wreck ?
@autobodyadvocate60762 жыл бұрын
No, that's saying there's an unrelated recall from the manufacturer.
@kellydray44432 жыл бұрын
Okay, but even though it states there is been 1 recall noticed and even though 5it refers to the manufacture. Still wouldn't that be proof that it clearly says and verifies in the estimate that there is a issue in the car just where in the car. It also states a NHTSA ID number below and including the date of the wreck.
@autobodyadvocate60762 жыл бұрын
It appears to be just making you aware that your vehicle could have a manufacturer recall. In our area that usually happens with recalled airbags. As far as I can tell this notice has nothing to do with your accident or repairs, just a recall. The dealer or body shop could probably tell you more about what the recall is.

Do auto body tech made good money?? If so, how much per year?
@autobodyadvocate60764 жыл бұрын
Around here they make ~$15-$20 per labor hour on the job, depending on experience. How much that ends up being at the end of the year depends greatly on how many hours the technician flags, and other factors. Unfortunately I don't know anything more specific than that.

@@autobodyadvocate6076 Can autobody shops help customers get a check from insurance companies after the insurance company approval total cost of repair?
@autobodyadvocate60763 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly what your asking me. A good body shop can help you process any insurance claim. If you are only looking to cash out, and not repair your vehicle, it might be hard to get the shop to assist with that. They don't make money unless you use them for repairs. If you're truly considering your options, a body shop would be happy to assist you with your repair options.
