This video was extremely helpful to me because, I am currently a marine electrician who have worked on submarines and navy surface ships. I also worked as a copy machine technician and a nuclear instrumentation technician - submarines. I am about to switch career over to automobile electrical diagnostics. I do understand how electrical and electronic circuits work however, there seem to be different symbols in the automotive industry, so that's the part i'm really concerned about. I do have some experience on electric vehicles (transit buses) so I feel confident that my past experience in electrical and electronic troubleshooting will transfer over to the automotive field. I will be working strictly on Mercedes models beginning in January therefore is trying to get up to speed with the different symbols and color codes used in automotive schematics. This video has been extremely helpful as I said before therefore I will most certainly check out your other videos.

Neon...this circuit does have a return. It is the green wire that he talks about. When the relay is energized (switch closed) the power is sent from the positive terminal and the electrons flow from the return through the load to the positive terminal of the power source. The only issue I have with this explanation is that there are no set standards for wire colors (it depends on the specifics of what the schematic is addressing (ie...automotive, circuit cards, computers etc...)) . The ground wire is usually black and not "green" in DC circuits. Positive is not always the color red. This explanation might give people a false sense of trying to identify voltages.

Good choice and your timing is great. The auto repair field is advancing faster than many of us old guys can keep up with. We need you and your future is bright. There are all sorts of things you can do like working for shops and learning as you go. But the one thing you will always need is TRAINING. Approach it with an open mind, not like a know it all. As you begin, work for different types of shops (engine, transmission, electrical, body, etc) until you find what really interests you. Also, our trade is rapidly becoming technical so get as much IT type train as you can. All of our stuff is now interlaced with computers so the more you can learn about that field the better off you will be.
