How to read diagnostic codes on a mk1-2 Ranger / B2500 | flashing glow plug light fixed | no OBD

had a lot of want for this video so here you go Ranger fans
essentially its morse code
every long flash is a digit separator
every short flash is the number of the digit
no flash indicates a zero
to reset the codes disconnect the battery and wait a few seconds

Thanks for this excellent description of how to diagnose this common fault. My glow plug light has been doing this for yonks, even after a head gasket change when glow plugs were renewed. Comes on after around 30 mins steady driving. No loss in performance, so probably simple sensor fault.

great video, thanks for that! I have a flashing airbag light. After bridging the contacts as you describe the light continues to flash every 5 seconds. No specific pattern. Any ideas how to move on?

Great video, have you had issues with the alternator? I changed mine as i was told it died. New alternator doesnt charge the battery until the engine is really warm or doesnt charge it at all

Brilliant, as a total beginner with vehicle mechanics I've found your videos really helpful and interesting (Mostly way above my knowledge base!). I recently had a flashing glow plug and had no idea what it was, turned out I'd forgotten to plug in the MAF sensor on the air intake whatsit as in your video. Now I know how to diagnose some of the issues. Any chance you could do some more basic stuff. With your help, I've changed the oil, filter, air filter, pollen filter, Rear Diff Fluid. Transmission oil next, have you done a video for that? I have a 2006 Ford Ranger XLT Thunder 221k. Thanks again. Stewart

Hi the immobiliser light has started flashing on my 99 2wd ranger. It flashes 2 long and 4 short and when ignition on. Was fine before but I haven't started it for about 2.5 months ish, went and changed cambelt today and noticed that after I started the engine the immobiliser icon (car with key inside) flashes. Could you shed any light on this? And how can I reset the light so it stops flashing?

Just reset the light. To reset the dash code flashing, make sure key is at off /lock position, disconnect the battery negative terminal and wait 30 secs, then press brake pedal and hold for 20 secs, then reconnect battery negative. Key in ignition turn to on and dash codes lights are reset!

I have nno Rev guage working it broke when one of the cogs went on the engine think it’s the cog that has a pick up ring on dunno if they swapped the pick up ring over any help would be great as I paid £500 to get it fiexed Av got p335 TDC SENSOR GUESSING THATS TOP DEAD CENTER MEANING P0510 idle switch P1402 egr valve blunt that has been blanked and taken out ages ago Any help locating these parts on the truck and we’re to buy from would really help Thanks

335 would be the tdc sensor yeah they’ve either swapped the reluctor ring but left the dodgey sensor in or the wires been chaffed by the front pulley 1402 is the three wires going to the front of the Egr valve for the position sensor - basically disconnect the battery to clear the codes and make sure it’s blanked properly like on my vid and you’ll get no codes 510 is inside the car on the pedal box bud

Check the fuse box. Your manual will tell you which fuse is for the dashboard lights

Hi had been getting an intermittent engine check light now and again and the engine would run rough. Usually goes away after sitting and restarting used this video and got two codes 0105 boost sensor malfunction and 1312 timer control valve circuit malfunction. Are either of these serious and is there anything I can try to fix them? Thanks

The rough running is caused by the 1312 and it’s the solenoid valve on the fuel pump that regulates the timing advance Bosch part no 9 443 611 832

With a faulty tcv it will revert to full advance and sound knocky because it’s fuelling too early

Had a quick look couldnt find much, there was one on ebay at around 300. Does that sound like the right sorta price? skint the now is there any way of fixing the one I have till I have some spare money.

Major fault If it has something wrong it will flash a number of times to tell you what’s wrong as soon as you turn the car on normally Staying solid means there’s something up with it big time
