I suggest instead of googling the meanings, just sit with each card and write down how it makes you feel (sad, happy, stressed, etc.). Your intuition uses what you already know. If you do this it will stick with you way more than if you were to look it up!

This is a really good advice, but I think better for oracle cards. The tarot cards have standard meanings that have been the same for centuries. But the oracle cards differ from person to person and it’s more connected to the person who owns the deck 💜

It's good to know some of tbe "standard" interpretations but it's way more important to understand *how* to interpret tarot cards and how tbe cards communicate their messeges.

I agree with what you said and this is how I have been using tarot, I listen to my feelings and my intuition first, I’m also an intuitive writer, so when I pull cards and write, I can write whole stories and the meaning of the same card can be so different in different readings. But then I watch a video somewhere on KZbin where someone says “these witches on tiktok are so fake, they pull a Tower card and read it as “new exciting opportunities”” and I start doubting myself, which makes me want to switch to oracle cards for good and never get back to tarot again. Because I believe that what your intuition tells you is the right reading, and we all know what the Tower mean but why not also “new opportunities”? I love that! So confused 🙄

I know you commented months ago but I just wanted to make suggestions for you! I was able to connect and read with my tarot deck within DAYS when I started. I watched Vincent Pitisci explanations of the cards using numbers and keywords and it helped SO MUCH! Also the book The Easiest Way to Learn the Tarot Ever by Dusty White is gold and comprises a bunch of daily exercises that are so so helpful! There are so many resources out there and I am still reading books but those two literally got me started and I recommend them to everyone. Vincent Pitisci also has books, and I really enjoyed Genius of the Tarot as well. Hope this helps and enjoy your tarot journey, it truly is a magical one!! oxoxoxox

As someone who didn't start out with rider waite, and got RW later... The rider waite deck should be every new reader's first deck. I really was able to learn the meaning with that deck, and it became my favorite decl

I started with rider waite deck and I didn’t feel connected with it at all. Didn’t find it pretty, didn’t feel called to work with it. Still have it because a lot of people on KZbin say to start with it, but I almost never use it. I loved the Steampunk deck a lot and been working with it for years.

You're absolutely right. Wild unknown tarot deck and the classic Waite deck are total different imagery. I started off with Wild Unknown, only because I could have better connected to the imageries of nature, than that of humanly world. But just as how heavy the energy could come through for a beginner, especially if they are not grounded enough, it could become difficult to handle the deck. Been there, saying from experience.

I was drawn to the Wild Unknown for my first deck and it was such a frustrating experience. I couldn’t get any meanings from the pictures, lovely as they were. So one week later I bought a contemporary deck deck based on RW and with a few videos under my belt plus the excellent book it came with, I was able to start reading.

@@kayleejade2758 well, yea it leaves a lot for your own interpretation, which normally isn’t considered good for beginners but for me it was fine. i just really felt connected to it. at first it was pretty overwhelming but i kinda asked the wrong questions. i recommend to not ask for the reason of the problem or what would happen soon but to rather ask it to help you with solving the problem only. i asked the deck for the reason behind one of my fears and i do not recommend that (unleast you’re really advanced or feel ready) because i couldn’t really find out what it wanted to say and it freaked me out a lot. now i just randomly pick cards to connect to it (without asking a specific question) and sometimes it just brings a important lesson for my life or the day across and it motivates me a lot, kind of like a guidance through the day. and that worked really well. overall i think everyone should develop their own special bond with it and you’ll know if you connect well and if you like it :) i wish you a great time with it, blessed be!
