I've been an atheist for my entire life and I'm only just beginning to outgrow that perspective. Honestly, when the world seems so chaotic and awful in so many ways right now, the message that a being of ultimate good will not only win in the end and create a better world, but want to share that world with humans, is one of the most reassuring messages I've ever heard, especially for someone who hadn't actually heard it until maybe a year ago. I know you hear things in the news about new generations being less religious and all that, but don't fear, guys. If someone who was as antitheistic as me could have his mind changed, you can open anyone's mind. Keep going, Bible Project, we need you more than ever.

It's called drinking the KoolAid when you decide to replace an unpleasant reality with a consoling make believe. The world has always been chaotic and awful the entire time that God has been in charge. If the Biblical god Yahweh wanted peace and love to rule the planet that is exactly what we would experience.
@TheNthMouse4 жыл бұрын
@James Richard Wiley - Your conception of "peace," "love," and "rule the planet" are at odds with each other, and their actual meaninings, and the nature of humanity. Your very comment demonstrates the fundamental problem: it is not peaceful; it probably isn't what you'd call loving; it's born from a desire to dominate over someone else. Should God then dominate you? Warp your mind, heart, and spirit? Force His will upon you? Your perspective is - narrow-minded: limited: subjective: small.

@@JamesRichardWiley Hey, I'm all for debating this stuff, but you assert that I changed my mind purely because it's a consoling thing to believe. Whether or not I find it consoling, you actually have no idea how or why I came to this conclusion, or what my views are, you simply assert that I must have decided to believe something that made me happy. That's not very intellectually honest.

No one can answer that James but I'm sure He has His reasons. The bible says until the fullness of the gentiles comes in. No one can know when that is but God always keeps His promises. @@JamesRichardWiley is been a constant war. On verse 5 thru 7. Talk a little bit of why and how. Also need to read the book of Daniel. 1)Now, dear brothers and sisters, let us clarify some things about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and how we will be gathered to meet him. 2)Don’t be so easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don’t believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation, or a letter supposedly from us. 3)Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed-the one who brings destruction. 4)He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God. 5)Don’t you remember that I told you about all this when I was with you? 6)And you know what is holding him back, for he can be revealed only when his time comes. 7) For this lawlessness is already at work secretly, and it will remain secret until the one who is holding it back steps out of the way. 8)Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by the splendor of his coming. 9) This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. 10)He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them. 11)So God will cause them to be greatly deceived, and they will believe these lies. 12)Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth. 13)As for us, we can’t help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation-a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth. 14)He called you to salvation when we told you the Good News; now you can share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-14 NLT NASB translation verse 2-8 2)that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; 2 Thessalonians 2:2-8 NASB

It’s the apocalypse! But that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. In the Bible, the word apocalypse means “to reveal.” It refers to moments when God uncovers the true nature of reality to someone, usually in a dream or vision. And because this often happens in dreams, biblical apocalyptic literature is packed with fantastic imagery and strange symbols: dragons and beasts, bowls of blood and fire, cosmic collapse, and more. Interpreting all these images is what makes biblical apocalyptic so controversial and intriguing. So how do we read it wisely? First, we need to see how apocalyptic visions are all connected to the bigger biblical storyline. God’s purpose from the beginning is to rule creation with his human images. They are to live by his wisdom in the place where heaven and earth are united, depicted as a mountain-garden of Eden. Once humans are exiled from the garden, the rest of the biblical story is about the restoration of that original purpose. This is why apocalyptic dreams and visions (like Genesis 28, Exodus 24, Isaiah 6, or Ezekiel 1) are all so similar. They’re visions into the heavenly Eden-temple, where God’s image rules all creation. And from that divine throne, God reveals wisdom about how he’s guiding history towards a renewed creation. And as for all that intense imagery in biblical apocalyptic literature, the best thing you can do to understand it is study the rest of the Bible. Apocalyptic symbols are all based on biblical design patterns and themes that begin in Genesis 1-11 and develop throughout the rest of the biblical story. Whether it’s the four horsemen, the seven trumpets, or the dragon and the lamb, these are all images with deep roots in the Hebrew Bible that come to their climax in the story of Jesus. Apocalyptic literature is the deep end of the pool when it comes to reading the Bible, but learning how to read it well comes with a great reward. We can learn to see the world from a divine perspective as we understand that the risen Jesus is the true King of the world who is guiding history toward a renewed creation. God does help us to find truth but that promise primarily was for the apostles. The way we know it's not for us is there are so many divisions within the church therefore God can't be doing that anymore. It's ok to speak what you actually see with your very eyes at times because God wants to prove our messages and without seeing where the rubber actually hits the road with scriptures we are sometimes borderline insane. We walk by faith and the command of Paul is to prove your teaching so if you can't reproduce your experience go back to the drawing board. What I just said is tested and proven therefore is truth.

@newperspective13184 жыл бұрын
@@senonimoustv2497 What brings me to the conclusion that Jesus was speaking primarily to the apostles is the 1000's of church denominations with different and opposite doctrines. If we believe that all who believe and are baptized are Christian's mark 16:16 then we must also believe if God was leading each individual Christian into all truth then there would only be 1 church denomination not 20,000 or so. So in conclusion God does lead us all to believe in the same death, burial, and resurrection of Christ today but the rest is up to us. In the first century there was only 1 denomination which was the church of Christ. After the apostles died it started branching off very quickly so what Jesus said came true he led the apostles into all truth so they could write the bible. That was the point.

I downvoted because of you saying the Bible is "one of the most influential books in history." You needn't be afraid of saying the truth: the Bible is, without a doubt, THE most influential book in history. Don't be ashamed of a love for God's word, and don't be afraid to give it the superlatives it so richly deserves. Thank you for your efforts, and God bless you!

Yay! When the series started I too hoped into the bus gleefully and holy moly, did we have a great ride! The greatest adventure of all is still awaiting all of the believers. Whooo! We will all meet on the other side one day! Till then let's rejoice in the Word of God. :)

So believing creates reality? Last time I checked there is no other side and no one survives the decomposition of the body. This is all there is.
@flitzgerald79844 жыл бұрын
@@JamesRichardWiley As a matter of belief, yes. As a matter of fact, no one can prove it. By the very same logic, you are NOT allowed to make that last statement (That is all there is), unless of course you don't want to be honest. For that matter, no one can make an assertion like that because no one can prove it meaningfully. That's why it's called belief and I choose to beleive in a Higher reality. In lower realities, I'm as rational and scientific as any other smart literate person out there. My faith doesn't necessarily conflict with my rational self. In fact, both are helping me become more functional in life. Before you nitpick on any other thing, I would suggest you to better ignore my comments in this video. I intend it for Bible believing Christians and not some atheist or random member of the YOLO crowd nitpickers floating around KZbin. I have already debated them all and I have reached my conclusion too. And @BibleProject too is clearly a channel about the Bible. The Good News about Christ. So if at all you are checking for the other side, it should be through the lens of the Bible. Because that's what we "believe" here and we have no fricking need to "prove" our beliefs. You are most welcome to work out your own beliefs and ideals. I don't care. Because I have already done mine (and Christ is all it is), thank you very much!

Thank you so much to Tim and Jon and the rest of the BibleProject team. I am lucky to have discovered your videos and website just when I began my own journey into reading the bible and understanding my own spirituality. I am of a rational background of study and fear I would have been endlessly lost trying to understand the theological meaning and themes without your help. Church sermons do not do justice for developing an understanding of the bible, as you folks have done so eloquently and concisely with these videos. You have taken me from the chaos of the sea to the stability of a rock where I can finally read with understanding, patience and humility the word of god. Thank you again and please keep up the fantastic work.

Revelation is not a hard book to understand. It's the only book that comes with a divine outline :) Revelation 1:19 NKJV - “Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this. "The things which you have seen": chapter 1 "The things which are": chapters 2 and 3 (Church history) "The things that will take place after this": chapters 4-22 Chapters 4 and 5 ~ the church is in heaven Chapters 6-19 ~ Jacob's Trouble (Great Tribulation) Chapters 20-22 ~ Millennium reign, judgement seat and then the new heaven and the new earth! I hope this blesses those who don't understand the book of Revelation!
