This episode makes sense of all the bewildering number of colours, pointers,numbers and dials and will help you to understand and read the Prague Astronomical clock. It does look very confusing, but once explained, you will understand just how marvellous, magnificent and complex this 600 year old clock really is BUT, once you understand it, it is easy to read and you will be able to impress your friends, family and potential employers with your knowledge; and you can test your understanding by accepting the Clock Face Challenge.

Geocentric clock! Sweet. It’s exactly how we see the luminaries moving from our vantage point. This clock, my eyes, Polaris(an ever fixed mark),long distance photography, water levelling, no shift in parallax, eclipses, the moons strange behaviour, lasers, radar, line of sight military weapons, satellites on balloons, electromagnetic north, and the list goes on. It’s good to know the truth.
@spook_dad

polaris moves, it circles the celestial pole, limitations of lasers, radar and los all prove the earth to be a globe. Information from satellites again show the planet we live on to be a globe, those held aloft by balloons for short periods can never be used for navigation, unlike those launching into various orbits around the earth. Ah yes Earths electromagnetic field, thanks for providing yet more evidence for the rotation of the planet we live on.

This clock was made with perfect accuracy by a geocentric clock maker. Listen to all the attempted damage control going on, complete double talk and confusion. Once you go flat you never go back. This clock shows so much more than this guy explained. This clock is a complete masterpiece. This clock gives us a glimpse of superior knowledge and technological genius from the past. We should be able to look at the heavens the same way as this clock and know exactly where we are in time. It only gets confusing when looking at it from a heliocentric point of view but not at all from a geocentric point of view. After all it was made for the way we see cosmology from our vantage point here on earth.

That clock and all other clocks weren't built for a globe, because a globe is stupid and everyone knew it before our current time. This phenomenal clock was built for a flat stable unmoving earth with a dome firmament above us. Wonder why it works so perfectly?

I disagree, in that the sky looks different depending on latitude. The fact that the time shown by the Sun and Moon are local times (Prague unique) has nothing to do with whether the earth was considered flat or not. In fact the "Earth" image on the clock face is a sphere. It was just easier to make the clock in 2-D. In our "time" where the 24 hours are equal and jump in 1 hour (or less or more) increments along semi-random longitude boundaries is as you say, stupid. We agree there. It's much better to use verifiable local time, provided it's locked to the underlying Epoch seconds value for event synchronization.

The people who come to look at the Christian pantomime show are completely missing the point. One feature of the clock you might like to mention further is the Moon phase indicator (the half black, half silver ball) It rotates to accurately show the phase of the moon throughout the month, despite that fact that _there is no gearing or any other connection_ between the ball and the clock mechanism! This was apparently something of a mystery, until during a 'recent' restoration it was found the sphere contained an ingenious gravity-driven gear which used the rotation of the Moon pointer around the clock face to drive its internal mechanism.
@Raywingit74
@Raywingit74 2 жыл бұрын
If you live on the coast, moon shows tide rise and fall. (Better on 12-hour clock face) - Biggest advantage is it shows Sun/Moon in reality for verification and you learn to tell time from them as well. To decipher the year requires an almanac and finding which year the Moon is correct. Or use a digital version such as Second Life, but then I digress. I like that the time to sunset is easily calculable, even if not the primary scale.

At minute 5, Ophiuchus is omitted, left out, over looked, ect... Ophiuchus is the 12th constellation..? The earth is fixed on its foundation so how could it turn? Bohemian time and commencement of a day at sunset was not 'adopted' from Italy. The sole source for a day starting at sunset is the Judaistic version of creation where it was declared a day started at sunset. Judaism continues to practice the tradition, particularly in regard to the sabbath, and preceded Italy by millennia. So almost but not quite.

Thanks for the video, great stuff! ... I am going to give it a try :) The sun is on Cancer starting June 22 and it seems like it's 3 sections in, which is (3*5=15 days), so the day is June 22+15 = July 7. The hand seems to be pointing to just after 2pm (2:15) so in summer time, it should be around 15:15. The sunlight time shows at 18. Which means there are 6 more hours of sunlight left. So that makes the sunset at about 21:15 = 21:30 How far am I? :)

Time challenge: Sun is sitting in the middle of Cancer (June 21 - July 20)... So June 21 + 15days = July 6 Since the hour is being blocked, so on the opposite side of the arm (Reverse T) is sitting appropriately 1/6 pass II, so the time should be approx 2:10pm. June is 1hr pass daylight, so it should be 3:10pm. Sun is sitting 1 section passed 18hrs. So it's appropriately 5hrs and 50min before sun set. Therefore, the time shown in the challenge is: July 6, 3:10pm, sun sets at 9pm ish.

I had to stop the video when he said ''the earth goes around the sun'' does he not know that Tycho brahe was a geocentrist ?
@TheMaskedGuide
@TheMaskedGuide Жыл бұрын
Yes, Tycho Brahe had a sort of hybrid view in which he attempted to make sense of his astronomical observations. In a way it ended up being a hybrid of the geocentric and Copernicus' proposal. So in his model: all of the planets orbited the sun, and the sun and the moon orbited the Earth. www.loc.gov/collections/finding-our-place-in-the-cosmos-with-carl-sagan/articles-and-essays/modeling-the-cosmos/whose-revolution-copernicus-brahe-and-kepler

@@TheMaskedGuide Yes I am rather familiar with his model & still hold it as truth compared to those heliocentric models. His measurements were accurate & when he died they were handed to kepler. I see no psychological reasoning in favoring a heliocentric cosmology

The clock is NOT in err. People's assumption that the earth goes around the sun is in err. The Ancients knew what they were doing.

@@TheMaskedGuide Astronomical clock aka as our celestial clock is our true time. The Stars above us is beyond our firmament and in the waters above, revolve at a constant 1 degrees every 4 minutes from east to west that is anticlockwise, this means they revolve at 15 degrees each hour. 15 degrees multiply by 24 hours is 360 full circle. The Stars above are fixed. They do not stray from their anticlockwise journey but revolve and complete a full circle everyday. The Stars are assigned into into fixed constellation. The 360 degree circle are divided into 12 divisional arc's of 30 degree's in which each constellation zodiac reside in. Each constellation is designated in 30 degree's arc with an antropomorphic symbol most of which are animals (zodiac, the Arc of the zoo). Each constellation of the zodiac moves from it's fixed position in the waters above at 1 degrees every 72 years. The Stars are fixed but every 72 years, the entire circle shift 1 degrees. This is what is called the precession of the equinox. So each Arc is 30 degree's, multiply 72 with 30 is 2160 years for the full circle above to shift one whole Arc. This is what is called an "Age", entering the dawn of the new age.

@@TheMaskedGuide sure. It's simple, the sun travels around the stationary earth. One can see the sun nestled in the clouds. That couldn't be if it were a million miles away.
