I’m so glad I read TID first. It made me have so many “omg that’s a reference to TID!” Moments during reading TMI. I loved it so much. I also read all six of the TMI books before I read TDA. I regret none of it.

I totally agree about Tales from Shadowhunter Academy! Loads of people disregard it but it's actually very important. I personally kinda consider it the 8th TMI book lol.

Cool video, love the Izzy necklace 😉 I started with all 6 TMI, and am currently on Clockwork Prince, so will finish TID, then probably go Bane Chronicles, Shadowhunter Academy, TDA, Shadow market, Red Scrolls, and finally COG. I already owned TMI and TID from when they first came out, but have just got back into them. I've bought them all now, so will have to go in publishing order in future anyway!

I love how you have hardbacks without the sleeves. The illustration is actually on the hardback cover. Anyone know who publishes these kinds of hardbacks? I am not of fan of hardback with sleeves .

Those are UK editions. Only The Bane Chronicles, Tales from Shadowhunter Academy and Chain of Gold were published in that edition. The other UK books are paperback.

The first time I read them I read the mortal Instruments first and then The infernal devices cos TID was given to me as a gift after already read TMI so it was only when I read them again that I got all the references to TID

I've read the first set of books and also the Shadowhunter TV series but you will find that its quite different from the books. I think It starts out like the books but then deviates from them. FYI Enjoy!

Okay first tell me what am. I gonna do!?? I have read all of them in the releasing order! 😂😂Anyway.... Didn't you read the Illustration history of Shadowhunters? You should if you haven't already. I was so sceptical about buying it because you know just Illustration why should I? But damn the illustration. It was so fascinating to see them in the illustration. And yeah my favorite series is definitely gonna be Infernal Devices. God I love Tessa and Will. Jem tooo. That series is just humor, literature, action and adventure along with love packed into one. Don't even mention the background. Just ahhh beautiful!! And I don't understand either how Shadowhunters academy isn't a must!! The journey, the little snippet of characters. It's just soo thrilling and beautiful. 👀👀💓 Okay I wrote a lot. I do this whenever I hear about Shadowhunters Chronicles!! Or someone asks me about it!! 🙂

No you can read Chain of Gold now! There really isn’t a right order, read whatever you’re most interested in. My order is merely here to help avoid spoilers because as you said it can be overwhelming. If you would like to get to know the characters from chain of gold before reading (again you don’t have to) you could read some of the novellas featuring them.

You can easily read TID and it's sequel series The Last Hours, of which Chain of Gold is the first one, without reading TMI. If you don't mind spoilers you can also read TDA, since it mostly focusses on new characters. It does really spoil TMI (and TID) though.

There are a lot of TID references in TMI and something major happens in TMI in relation to TID (refer to City of Heavenly Fire ). Just get started and trust me you wont regret it

I didn’t say I got spoiled just that I wish I read them in the order I created for the experience. For example to see what happened on the Malec holiday straight after city of lost souls rather than years down the line where I can’t remember what happens around that time

Yes of course. The other books follow different main characters but they are set in the same universe and so the old characters do show up occasionally. I hope you're able to find the rest someday!

Hello i never started the hole serie but i guess this video was made before chain of iron and chain of gold were out so in my point of view you should read chain of iron after chain of gold and chain of throne after chain of iron cuz i guess they are a triology.And for the epilogue in clockwork princess i think that when you are in this epilogue like you will find it on the book.ex like at the start of the epilogue there will be "Épilogue" written in the top of the page.if it's not then how the woman in the video knew where is the epilogue. (I never started the serie so it's better for you to do a reserch in google😉)

@@lsc3158 hi ,no probleme hope it helps🥰 But please now after i watched a lot of videos for the order i knew that if you read chain of gold triology before lady midnight it will spoils some events in lady midnight because chain of gold was published after lady middnight triology . so now i will give the perfect order it is a mix but i think it is the best: 1.Clockwork Angel 2.Clockwork prince 3.Clockwork princess(without épilogue) 4.City of bone 5.City of Ashes 6.City of glass 7.The red scrolls of magic 8.City of fallen angels 9.city of havenly fire(witout the epilogue then go to the epilogue of clock... princess and read it then return to the epilogue of city of haven..... 10.Tales from the shadow hunter academy 11.The lost book of the white 12. Lady midnight 13. Lord of shadows 14. Queen of air and darkness 15. Chain of gold 16.Chain of iron 17. Chain of throne (not published yet. Uhm i think this is the best order 🤗 And for the bane chronicals and the hunter of the shadow market please read them a the end cuz they contain stories of all the serie. I didn't want you to be spoiled on lady midnight so i wrote all this order,i didn't read the serie but if i want to read it i guess this is the best order to avoid spoilers.❤❤

I don't think they fit into an order specifically as they're mostly guides to the series. I'm not sure if they have spoilers though as I haven't read them myself

'Shadowhunters and Downworlders: A Mortal Instruments Reader' is a series of essays by other authors ABOUT the TMI series (as in, the actual books) and is thus not really part of the series. So totally not essential reading.
