Ahhhh, thank you so much for this Jemma!! I've just started this week teaching little kids for the first time ever (I'm teaching several groups and the age range of my students goes from 6 to 11 years old). The group I have of 6 years old know nothing about English... and I'm not used to interacting with little children, but I'm ready to learn! You're an inspiration, so thank you! I'm from Spain, btw!

Hi, Jema I really enjoy your videos they have been really helpful for my classes. I teach English in Mexico, in a small town named Huimanguillo. I opened my own English school here and against all odds, I have tried to implement a new vision towards second language learning for young learners cuz many people here believe the little one might get confused when learning a second language. Now I have almost 3 years teaching pree-schoolers, kindergarteners and elementary school students. Thanks a lot for your videos!!! Greetings from Mexico!!!!!

Hi, thanks for watching! As I mentioned in the video, I would try and find ways to involve the students in the story telling process. If they have a higher level you can ask higher-level comprehension questions, like "what do you think will happen?" or "What if..." questions. I. would also make sure that they are able o understand the story. you are reading. If they are bored, it's possible the book level is too high or too low. I hope that helps!

I'm teaching in Taiwan and basically that was how my reading class was in the beginning of your video At a complete and total desperation I started finding stories on KZbin that have been turned into movies like little cartoons. For example alligator under my bed. Boy was that a big hit. What it was is I let them watch it because it's like 6 minutes and then as I would watch it I would stop it and teach them through the video. Who is he? A boy. What is it? An alligator. This is what I do for a very tiny students but for the older kids they get the longer answers and then eventually after all these stories using this technique. I'm now able to teach them how to use the past tense using the same stories they love it. The only thing is I wish they had a projector that would have been awesome but I have to work with what I have. I do this for music science and story time and the kids love it. This was before I came across your KZbin channel. After 2 years of teaching my kids at my kindergarten their graduating in July and I'm looking for a new job and the only one I can find is a school that is quiet good but they don't use any kind of media in the kindergarten classes. That's no problem but they don't even have books. Nothing for grammar pronunciation phonics math so I'm trying to relearn how to teach again. I've been in Taiwan for 16 years

@MooncakeEnglish4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sara, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! I think for the first lesson I would focus on keeping the students attention and letting them get to know you. If possible I would start with a subject that they are familiar with so that they get a "oh I can do this" feeling when learning online. I also highly recommend teaching some easy attention grabbers to help keep their attention. For example... Rolly polly, rolly polly, rolly polly UP Rolly polly, rolly polly, rolly polly DOWN Rolly polly, rolly polly, rolly polly OUT Rolly polly, rolly polly, rolly polly IN That will also help keep their attention. I hope that helps 😊
