Thank you! I'm a DIY and was about to throw away a brand new lock!

I'm thinking about re-keying my back door and found this channel. I like the detailed explanations of the common mistakes which I will be making personally as soon as I take the thing apart. I have subscribed because whether I re-key or not, these are fun to watch.

Thank you for your excellent video... I am working on my first rekeying project. Somehow I really messed it up and the cylinder is locked up and I can't get it to come out with the follower. I think I didn't use the correct pins or something. Any suggestions? thank you very much!

When all else fails, just remove the follower in a controlled environment and let the pins and springs roll haha Check you springs, check the core, lubricate everything. You can even use it as a learning experience and put one chamber in at a time, then try the key each time and see where your problem is if it still persists!

I wonder if you can rebuild a European cilinder ...

I don't have a follower, i used a multi-bit screwdriver as a follower. Just remove the phillips heads & handle, and use the cylinder thing as the follower.

Oh! Sometimes you can use a marker or the lid of a marker as a plug follower as well!

Does that not offset the key code
@LockandKiloАй бұрын
If you rebuild it in the same order, the existing key would still work. It would only offset if you scrambled the bottom pins upon rebuilding.

@@LockandKilo I’m learning the trade as well I know I have tons to learn and thank you so much for a response

@@LockandKilo if you moves the pins to different chambers you would have to decode correct?
@LockandKiloАй бұрын
@@jsoutdoorz7390yeah, so all of your springs and top pins (flat pins) are the same depth on a Kwikset. So, the bottom (pointed pins) are what you really have to pay attention to. So, leave your key inserted into the plug while you insert each bottom pin. This is to help you see if a pin is incorrect in each chamber. All pins should be flush.

Sometimes they fly away never to be seen again. But, you can buy cases of 50-100 for a few bucks online. Just search up Kwikset Springs from Lab. Alot of online vendors sell Lab, even Amazon lol
