How to REBUILD a LUT's Curves? | DaVinci Resolve Tutorial | EP03 upGrade

Watch this tutorial to learn how to rebuild LUTs in DaVinci Resolve. LUTs are very powerful tools but there are instances when you want to have full control over the image. That's when rebuilding a LUT as a powergrade will come in handy. In this tutorial I show you how to rebuild the RGB Curves of a LUT. In a future video, I'll show you how to rebuild the Hue components of a LUT too. I am going to try rebuilding the RGB curves of the Rec 709 Kodak 2383 D65 LUT that comes with resolve. But you can use any LUT and follow the same steps.

Nice one Praatek. But you’re only matching the Contrast and the Tint and not really the distribution of hues in an RGB spectrum. This hasn’t matched The spectral sensitivity of the Lut and the behavior of the hues in different light shades like Juan Melara did in the Kodak 2383 LUT rebuild. Either way, definitely better tutorial than the majority of what’s out there.

Thank you Justin. I agree with you that whatever I demonstrated in the tutorial has only matched the contrast and split toning of the LUT. As mentioned in the tutorial at 4:25 , I will be showing you how I like to match the hue components of a LUT in a future video😀

Nice one - the only thing I would do is break the scopes out and blow them up to be able to see the curve more closely and match it precisely. Sometimes things look lined up until you zoom in on them.

Interesting stuff Prateek. I built the RGB curves after the contrast curve (not realizing that you are doing that before the contrast node). I was able to get a successful match but was curious to know if you have an opinion on the order of operations. Thanks!
