This isn't a trans. question but a front diff. question. Can I use a GL4 gear oil instead of GL5? Thank you. Vehicle in question is a 22 ram 1500. It calls for GL5 - 75w90 for the front diff. but i have two bottles of Amsoil that are GL4 75w90 from another project, and was wondering if it would do any damage if i used that oil. Thanks.

I always say to use what they recommend. Although I cannot see why it would matter since Gl4 was used in diffs for years

Just got my order hurst comp plus with bearing and clips and I couldn’t be any happier. The quality he adds to these shifters with his “no cost” upgrades are unbelievable. Also purchased the bearings and clips he offers and they’re well worth $21. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy from Paul again. He goes the extra mile.

Your Hurst shifter videos are incredibly informative. Very helpful. Unfortunately for me I own a Mustang with the old 3 speed toplader with the Hurst Mastershift 3 speed shifter. I’m getting a 1-2 shifter hangup (same motion as the 2-3 in a four speed). Are the remedies for the 3 speeds same as for those described for 4 speeds? Are the shims interchangeable? Thanks

Thanks for the video. I've run a D300 in my 79 Ramcharger for 17 years. I completely part time swapped it with 80s Dodge hubs, knuckles and etc and added a mild magnum 360/NV4500 as well. I've been mindful of the throttle as best I can although Moab doesn't always allow for that. LOL Swapping to a lightly modded 5.7 hemi Eagle and I'm getting the 32 spline hardened output and maybe a hardened intermediate as well. This will make the process easier. I've never had it apart, had 81k on it when I bought it and have put another 45k on it in the Ramcharger. But I figure it's time to rebuild and upgrade before the hemi swap is finished.

This was super helpful thank you so much! On mine, the floating input shaft's bearing hasnt come through the housing enough to get the retaining clip on. Ive held the trans up by the input shaft and tapped down on the casing with a brass hammer a bit which was enough for the clip to the cluster shaft, but still cant seem to get the main input beaing out enough to reach the groove. Its close, but not close enough. Is this nornal?

If I took the car for service he would write a list on the bottom of the receipt Reccommended: remove aftermarket exhaust pipe , return to OEM Remove aftermarket suspension , return to OEM Etc. He was one of the best mechanics I ever dealt with. I wrench on my own stuff anymore but I would recommend him to anyone with a German car

Hey Vince, What is the secret to the 4 spd overdrive version of the toploader to remove the input shaft ... the counter gears after dropping them do not allow for enough clearance to pull or install. There is however, a few teeth on the 4th gear that might allow for some clearance, but that does not seem to work either. In the video, the input shaft pulls right out, but not so for the 4 spd over drive. I have worked on two of these transmissions and always the same problem ... any help? Dan

I realise this video is 3 years old. Im in Australia and run an Indy Hurst shifter on my Toploader, im going to remove and inspect my shifter, lately Ive been having problems getting into reverse, I adjusted it by the instructions and it feels great for 1 or 2 drives then it does it again, it wont get past the gate, it all seems tight with no play, im thinking the problem might be in the gearbox, but firstly il remove the shifter and inspect and will do what you have shown, great video. Thank you Sir.
@GearBoxVideo
@GearBoxVideo 18 күн бұрын
You need to get underneath the car and see what's going on. Some of the top loaded detent mechanisms are very sloppy and it could be that just a reals are not actually going back into neutral and then causing the shifter to obviously not being neutral completely
@falconx5744
@falconx5744 18 күн бұрын
@@GearBoxVideo Thanks Paul. I ended up removing the shifter completely and rebuilding it, plus i watched some of your videos and also chamfered the gates, cleaned everything and up and greased, while i was at it I removed the extension housing and fitted a new gasket and tailshaft seal because it had a small oil leak, changed the gearbox oil. The shifter now works better than ever. I run a Hurst Shifter in an Australian Falcon GT with the adapter so the stick exists closer to the driver and in the correct position of the console, so while i was at it i filed and made things a little nicer there also. I shouted you a coffee about a week ago to say thanks for your videos in appreciation, excellent information for us all. Thank you

I have owned 5 TKO500/600 units and only had to repair one of them due to bad 3-4 shift. In Mustangs with T-5, I will nuke the T-5 upon anything requiring removal of the trans. The one TKO that needed repair became my "practice" trans I used to disassemble and reassemble many times. Honestly, I have never found sloppy workmanship in a TKO I bought new but have seen some half-assed repair work on used ones. I bought my first one in 2005 when the T-5 decided to literally explode with housing parts lying on the ground. Yep, right at the tree, it hooked and BOOM, the track guys were furious as I rendered the right lane useless for around an hour on a test/tune night. 😂 No more T-5, "World Class" or not. These days we only have 1 drag car and that is a PA Pro Mod C4. Just too many issues at important times. Great video for someone not wanting to spend another 2500 on a new TKO. 😂
