Great repair job Frank. I'm a big fan of Case equipment from that 64-74 era, it all had that same Case look from a 970 tractor to an 1150 track loader, same with most US farm and construction equipment.

Oliver used thermal relief valves on the 55+ series or closed-center systems too. The factory ones on my 1755 were shot. The earlier 00-50 series tractors with open-center used an interlock system so you couldn't operate the remotes without system pressure. It was a safety measure to prevent dropping an implement or whatever on accident if fumbling around the operator's station while the tractor is off. It was a good idea, but not well-received in practice. I like that Case design - little different, pretty simple, but effective! Very nice rebuild job, Frank! Great success! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the video, I've had a few of those apart but they were junk so never rebuilt one just put used ones on the customer picked up cheap, then found the pressures were off on the reliefs. There is one tractor out there I couldn't shim and get it right with a washer, so it's got a canadian coin with the print ground off both sides and a factory shim or 2 in L.O.L. I actually got real good at doing them in guys farm yards without jacking the cabs. If I was still doing some I'd of built the tool like case had to set the reliefs up. So I knew what it was doing before having to fit it and guess a few times if it was too high or not quite enough, if they wanted more pressure for some machines. I'm down to one customer with an 870 in that range and now he figures he don't want to pay me much to work on it, The money goes on the MX135 he bought as a "better tractor" he just asks a lot of questions on the old 70 now L.O.L They are still a good tractor this guys 870's been on the farm since his dad had it as a demo unit when it was new, and he uses it on a big NH haybine ,and he just added a 3 point and separate loader spool/ joystick so he's doubled the value of it now. It'll be interesting how long the pto lasts he's got a massive Shulte snow blower on it now to so he can feed cattle with the MX and processer without swapping equipment . Take care.

Hey Frank I have a few questions on a 970 pto problems. Pto engages but doesn't have much power. Doesn't have enough power to operate my small square baler. Its a massey ferguson 124. Doesn't matter my rpms or what gear im in it doesn't change pto power at all. Any info would be great. Im not familiar with case tractors or know much about ptos. Im a diesel mechanic and have worked everything from cars to diesels generators. Not much tractor besides engine work.
@Digginok Жыл бұрын
Pressure check would be the first place to start, a good manual will show the procedure. I’m not that knowledgeable about them. Kinda seems as if the pto brake is working, but if the clutch pressure is low it will never pull a load. Could be valve issues, or clutch pack issues. When the clutch linings are worn out the pto will not make any power, as if the clutch pressure is low will cause the clutch linings to wear out prematurely. Start with the simple stuff, is the linkage adjustment correct, then move on to pressure checks.

Have a case 970 that will lift my haybine smoothly with no issue, but won’t let it down unless I hit the lever hard (like it’s binding up) and then it’ll break free and drop the haybine all the way down. Tried both remote valves with hoses hooked up every way with same result, got an idea what would be wrong?
@Digginok8 ай бұрын
That’s kinda the way they are, when you let equipment down the lever is acting on the spool that unseats the ball bearing. If you put a larger bore cylinder on the haybine it would lower the pressure that is required to raise it thus lower the pressure on the ball that seats in the hydraulic valve.
@chanceryland71848 ай бұрын
@@Digginok hmm… might have to trade it off then! Really don’t like how fast it crashes down, would definitely start wrecking stuff after a day of up and down
@chanceryland71848 ай бұрын
@@Digginok there is no feathering it down at all sadly, and it’s very hard on it dropping it down like that. Figured maybe there was a relief valve that could be needing replacing!
@Digginok8 ай бұрын
@@chanceryland7184 no relief valve in the down circuit, when the ball is unseated it lets the oil flow back to the trans case. It may be possible to put a one way adjustable flow control valve on the hose. Other than that it’s just try to crack the valve open just a bit. Be sure the lever linkage is oiled and moving free.

I've got a 730 wth a loader that drops when you let off the valve. Both cylinders have been rebuilt. Do you think checking and cleaning the check balls on under the hose elbows will help this problem?
@Digginok2 жыл бұрын
Have you tried reversing the hoses to see if it will hold in the other direction? If it will hold in one direction it is usually the plastic relief valves, the steel balls usually are okay, but there is that possibility. Good luck

Hello, I have a 1970 770. Last summer it was working fine using a round baler. Then all of a sudden it wouldn’t open the tailgate on the baler. After testing with another tractor I determined it was the 770. I replaced the pump (new) and the flow divider (used). I have a used remote valve on the way. I can’t find a full kit to rebuild. I took my valve to Caseih dealer and they wouldn’t work on it. They said they didn’t know how to work on it. I am trying the used valve because of that. If the replacement valve doesn’t fix it. What else could be my problem with it. I live in Southeast Tennessee and can’t find anyone to help me out on this. Any help would be appreciated. The most pressure I can get from my remotes is 500 pounds and will only open baler about 1/3 to a 1/2 at most.
@Digginok10 ай бұрын
First off watch this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpe8aauGo8SaiNEfeature=shared Second if that’s not the issue I would try to check pressures on both the up and down on the remotes. If the thermal valve in the remote is bad it will only hold pressure in one direction. I did rebuild a remote for a guy last year, he mailed it up from Texas, and I know another guy that has spare parts for the valve. I can put you in touch with him if you email me. Cunningham2442@gmail.com. Hope this helps
