Frank, you are a much braver man than me!! The guy I bought my TD8 from gave me a manual for the injection pump and my only thought was, I'll never use that. That is one thing I would most definitely send out for repair. Looking forward to part two.

Not braver, maybe dumber! Lol I bought a manual for the reassembly, it would have made a lot of difference.

It always amazes me at how complex some of these parts are on engines. That's some crazy engineering and this is an old machine.

This is actually one of the simple injection pumps. But diesel injection pumps are one of the most complex units on a Diesel engine. Thanks for watching

Good evening Mr. Frank, I did the same thing to my TD7C. These VA pumps are easy to work with. I had to make some parts for it myself and I rebuilt the accelerator/decelerator too. I posted my rebuilt process on my channel.
@Digginok3 жыл бұрын
I will share a link to your video on my next one if you don’t mind, you did a fine job on your rebuild. Thanks for watching, if I had read a manual before the tear down I would have been a bit more prepared. Your pump is a little bit different than mine it seems, small differences.

Well I got a seal kit for my CR pump on the backhoe. Im still debating if i want to tackle it myself or switch over to a more common pump. I think they make a swap kit to run a VE rotary on it. After watching Wes' video on it i feel like i shouldn't even be touching those. lol The things we do to save money and downtime but its also a good learning experience.
@Digginok3 жыл бұрын
Im sure you could handle it, just get a good manual first. That would have made this go way better. I bought one before the reassembly.

Holy Cow...! Frank...! Leave it to you to be able to make a video about rebuilding an injector pump, so damn suspenseful... Your video title hooked me in, and my heart rate became elevated... When you said “crap”, that was it. I had to stop the video, and fetch me an 8oz., glass of Montana made whiskey, take some deep breaths, and restart the video shortly after... The stress was just too much... Great video sir, Looking forward to part #2... course I will pre-dose the whiskey when it is posted... LOL...! Thank you sir. Frank, I have a 1977 125e with the same pump. It is leaking as well, but it is a farm machine. I might get a couple hrs on it every other month. I have looked at a rebuilt pump if you can find one for $1500 and I haven't quoted rebuild job but it will be pricey as well. After watching this, i'm just going to live with it. I have plenty of other issues with the machine but it runs and fires up hot or cold. One question thought I have a coolant leak in the manifold for the oil cooler. Do you have or have had an issue with yours? Thanks for the video's they help me understand my machine better. You can only learn so much from a book. I love those old IH machines, except for the fuel pump. IMO they are easier to understand
@Digginok3 жыл бұрын
You should be able to find a shop to reseal it for around 500$ I haven’t had any issues with the oil cooler. Yet! Thanks for watching

If that red spot near the front of the alternator at about 3:23 is blood from a knuckle, then it seems familiar to how I work. I already took your advice on "don't do it" for injection pumps. I tried, once. (The rebuilt pump cost me $700 plus a core, and that was 10 years ago). Carburetors on 50 year old lawn mowers, I can handle, anything more complicated, nope.

In a situation like that I suggest punching it open to the smallest size you can that is truly round. Then make a bushing out of half hard brass and you now have a replicable wear item. If the original part lost thickness you can always make the bushing a little proud and let it protrude from the side or sides needed. Make a couple extra bushings when you have the lathe fired up.. Oillite is handy to have in situations like that
