How to Rebuild & Clean a CAT Electronic Joystick

What started out as a simple rubber boot swap turned out to be a much bigger deal. In this video I pull apart the Left hand control joystick for my CAT 299D and do a very detailed and thorough cleaning of all the components plus a few minor repairs. CAT Probably uses this same joystick or similar components across their different equipment, so I hope this information is helpful to anyone who has to do an electronic joystick rebuild and cleaning.

I got this code saying left joystick not getting base message. How can I test if my left joystick is working or not? Can I swap right joystick with the left one?

I keep getting a right joystick left/right position sensor voltage above normal.. the attachment will have no control unless i restart machine repeatedly.. cat says probably a joystick replacement, and new one for $1500 SMH

Just had the attachment control for right Joy stick stop working 2377 hours on my 289d. Thanks for the tutorial, I will dive into the right stick and check for chafing and ohm the thumb switch. I can hear the selector valve tripping when I press the button on left stick. I don't have any hydraulic movement to attachment on right stick... your thoughts?

Just had to have my RH joystick replaced on a 262c2 at 3,000 hours. Bucket would not move. 750.00 bill :-(

So I’m borrowing a buddy’s skiddy and he swears it doesn’t have rabbit mode🤦🏽 he replaced the joystick a while back and I’m pretty sure he was cheap and bought the one with just the horn button.
