The existing band shows that it cracked before, the repair failed and they're fixing it again. Maybe it didn't get a thumbs up last time.

@ExileXCross you speak without knowing what your speaking of. If you pay attention and realized this housing wasn't repaired before. The existing band is how the housing is made being the housing has multiple layers the cut a the fish mouth plates in the housing to remove the fracture and different size and shape repair plates to weld in. Like drilling a hole to stop a crack before repairing. This made the housing as strong if not stronger then before the repair

@carllennen3520
@carllennen3520 Ай бұрын
You should be honest, and admit you have no clue wtf youre talking about. They stick welded cast iron. You cant do that. Cast iron has to be welded a specific way, and this aint it. Those welds will not hold, the moment they encounter any stress. For there to be any amount of structural integrity of those welds, they have to be forge welded together, and allowed to cool very slowly. Stick welding it, the cast iron will never get hot enough, to actually melt the seems together, and allowing these welds to cool fast like they did, causes the weld to cool faster then the cast iron, making this useless. These idiots just wastes a full day of work, and the moment this truck starts doing any work, this housing will re-split, potentially killing someone. This literally will not hold longer than 30 seconds under load.

I don't understand what your issue with the comments are. The comments all pretty much are supportive of these men saying "doing the best they can with what they got". I think everyone else had the same thought as me when they first saw the video. This is what they have to do to get the vehicle up and running whether or not it lasts for the next 20k miles is another story. I don't beleive welding an axle back together will last very long because of the amount of stress and flex an axle is put through on a daily basis. Here in America it wouldn't be the best option or even an insurable option but in a 3rd world country this is the best these men got and they did an outstanding job.

It ain’t gonna hold it’s cast iron, 7018 and 6013 are most likely the rods they’re using (because it’s the most common welding rods) but no bevel for a nice deep root, I love how literally ever comment shows that people have absolutely no clue what they’re talking about, to be able to weld cast iron there are very specific procedures to take into consideration bc cast iron is a porous metal. The iron needs to be preheated and cooled very slowly for a solid weld, this ain’t it, do your research people.
@baileygreathead5233
@baileygreathead5233 Ай бұрын
Your points are valid if we look at cast irons in general terms although for this application the diff housing is most likely ductile iron, which generally does not require preheating and can be welded with MMAW electrodes easily if they have reasonable nickel content. Butt welding of ductile iron is also not recommended due to the increased stress from thermal energy. To put it it plainly, it's extremely hard to tell as we don't have all the information but this would be my best estimation based on my experience of welding ductile iron piping

W.E. here. If that were high carbon cast iron there is no way on earth it would have plastically deformed during the break or AFTER the break with that bottle jack. This should hold up fine though I am quite certain those outer bearings are no longer concentric with one another.
