Laika (Leica?) needs treats and walkies? Jack needs treats and walkies! This was a great show; you are allowed to vent at the things that hold back humanity's space voyaging.

I thoroughly enjoyed this show. I have seen many NSF updates, but never Flame Trench. You three are great. I regret that I am unable to do anything to support NSF, but my wife and I are raising three grandchildren; this doesn't leave much. (They want to eat. Can you imagine?) Keep up the fantastic work. Thank you.

Particularly poignant episode of the Flame Trench. Very spicy and for understandable reasons. The decision on VIPER in particular is exasperating, I feel your pain, Jack.

Is there any evidence for the "This would have never happened on a customer mission and they were testing boundaries" theory? It just seems like it'd be very irresponsible to put even a Starlink mission at risk considering the downstream impacts we are seeing.

0:52:34 - In response to VIPER; "... there's nothing that we taxpayers can really do..." WRONG! When the final HST Hubble servicing mission was to be cancelled, I called my Senators and Representatives and left polite messages that I wanted the HST to get its upgrades. One phone call ≈ 10,000 like-minded voters. Hubble got its mission.

With regard to return samples from Mars. WHY?? Why return samples? Just send equipment to analyze the samples. We are already doing this.

Don't expect StarShip to do a sample return because it CAN'T -- StarShip is a ONE WAY journey. There is no Sebatier reactor on Mars to refuel the ship for a return, nor is there the on-orbit fueling to equip SarShip to get to Mars in the first place. StarShip is an oversized Pez dispenser.

Starship is designed to eventually fly to Mars and back. SpaceX will have to figure this all out regardless if they get the MSR contract. What other companies can you say are doing the same?
@brett9308
@brett9308 Ай бұрын
@@originalmin DARPA, Lockheed-Martin, BWXT and NASA JPL. All of them. At the same time. Right NOW. Ohhh, you haven't read the NASA Mars DRM 5.0, have you? StarShip "is designed" -- you mean the half-baked lump of steel it currently exists as? The Starship User Guide 1.0 promised that vehicle -- 1000m3 pressurized capacity -- would carry 100 people. If you, or anyone at SpaceX had a clue about ship design, you'd, and they, would know that'd never, ever happen. Ship design guidelines, and NASA protocol, pertaining to minimum pressurized volume per crewmember for long duration missions (I have citations!), leaves you with about 333.33m3 pressurized capacity after you take into account ship systems, equipment, food, water, cargo, space suits, toilets, exercise equipment, bulkheads, miscellaneous fittings etc. 3.33m3 per person? Looks like someone at SpaceX forgot to do the math! "Zero gravity games AND a restaurant!", and some woman in a flowy gown playing the violin in front of the space windows StarShip will never have? Oh, and what happened to 100-150 tons payload? SpaceX is a circus and you think they'll just "figure this all out"? Don't for a moment suggest StarShip v2 and v3. You don't announce v2 and v3 when v1 is a failure. That was just an emergency pivot to take your attention away from just how awful v1 is and how dreadfully behind schedule they are! It's 2024...aren't there four StarShips enroute to Mars now? "That's not a *fap fap fap fap* typo". Blue Origin will end up taking over the lunar lander because SpaceX seem to have forgotten all about it. They were too busy working on a cargo bay door, something oh so simple, that was a pathetic failure.

Do you yhink it would be better for spaceX to build a space tug instead of using a modified dragon to dump the ISS in 2030. Infive years a space tug would or could be used for a lot of things.
